I just finished watching the interviews of each by Rick Warren. Something struck me. McCain isn't as plain vanilla as before and answered questions with direct answers. Obama showed he is personable, and dazzled with his bullsh*t. Not too many real answers and a lot of fancy footwork. Nothing of real substance showing. I think I would rather vote for a dinosaur that stands for something and knows what he believes than a nice guy who stands for nothing and goes whichever way the wind blows.

Placing Obama's charisma and good looks aside, what is he really bringing to the table? What does 'change' mean, exactly?
I have no idea, and neither do any of his supporters. That is frightening. I don't have a clue if I should like the guy or not. I can't get a straight answer out of him on anything, and that interview last night was no exception.

Amen to that. "Straight Talk Express" my arse.

In my opinion, based on my observatoins, this is what happened this time:
The LQ has been working to become Pres since before she met Uncle Bill. This election cycle was her first shot at it. In order to get the LQ elected, she had to go through two elections: The D primary and the main one against the R candidate. She needed a loser on the R's that she could beat and she needed someone on the D's that was so dirty and far out of touch with even most of the D's that he made the LQ look good. They set Da O up for that, getting him elected to the Senate so he'd have a shot at running. The Klinton machine then knocked out every one except Da O and Little Mac. Most of the R's dropped out before the first real ballot. The news media proclaimed Little Mac to be The One. NYT ran great pieces on how good he was and how bad all the other R's were. Little Mac got the R nomination, even though no R's like him. At all. On the D side, something funny happened. Given half a chance at anyone except the LQ, the D's jumped ship and ran screaming away from her. Now, Da O is a really good speaker, and he looks sharp. Just don't look too closely at anything he has ever done or the people he surrounds himself with.
Then there's Edwards. I strongly suspect that Da O was going to pick Edwards as the VP for the ticket. This would enhance Da O's chances greatly, because for some strange reason, D's liked Edwards. Maybe it was his channeling of dead babies or great hair. Anyway, the Klinton machine has spooks in Da O's campaign. You can count on that. So, I suspect they got word of Edwards' pick for VP and decided to take him out. The Klintons certainly knew about Edwards little bimbo and baby. So, a little call to The Enquirer with a date and a hotel and a wink-wink, and Edwards is all done. Faithful to dying wife, Father of the Year. Uh-huh. How can you tell Edwards is lying? His lips are moving.
The D convention isn't here yet (8/17/08), but the LQ seems to be playing one last card there. It looks like there's going to be some type of roll-call vote with the LQ still on the ballot. There might be a last ditch effort to prop her up and "save the party/country/planet/galaxy/universe." If this happened, I'd give it 50-50 or better that she wins in November. With Da O as the candidate, we get Little Mac as Pres and 4 more years of the D's blocking all progress and doing everything possible to screw up the country even more. The R's are either in on it or too stoopid to see what is happening. After the country further death spirals (and $4/gal gas is just the tip of the iceberg), we'll get the LQ back with an "I told you dumb motherberkeleyers to vote for me, but noooo, you picked Da O" and she'll be elected next. Uncle Bill will likely pass in the next 4 years, as he hasn't looked too good health-wise lately. He had some type of cardiopathy post Oval Office, didn't he? With him out of the way, the LQ will blaze on to victory.
In the mean time, we are totally berkeleyed.

yeah.. I wish we had a way back machine so we could see how he handled the y2k switch. I wonder if he's still working through his stockpile of MRE's. Though he probably won't cause they will be useful in the coming race war.

To the Dem's in this thread, can you answer the above question? Maybe you could enlighten the rest of us wayward souls who are dumb enough to want to know right-or-wrong what a candidate stands for.
And I assume you have NEVER changed your mind or stance on any topic ever in your life based on new experience, knowledge, counsel, etc.? What, you can but politicians can't?!?

not a dem.. I'm an independent.
http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/ObamaBlueprintForChange.pdf and if you want you can read..
but I'll give you the quick run down of why I am voting for barak....
- no blatant attack ads and he runs a campaign based on what is good and can be better.
- no crazy cronies(atleast that I know of) that are linked to every crooked special interest in the world
- he's basically the opposite of bush.. <-- after the past 8 years I think you'd have to be an idiot to vote repub.
- He's ethnically diverse. We've had a couple hundred years + of rich white guys of pres.. We're going downhill so E36 M3 might as well try something different.
- going around the world smashing enemies with might dosen't work, when you're the only one doing it. All it does is make people harbor long term hatred toward us and create more problems down the road. Idiot boy has screwed up Iraq, and it'll come back to haunt us.. later. when my kids have to go fight something that bush screwed up...
Serious.. all b.s. reasons aside. he's different than bush, period. McCain is the same.

hess refers to hillary as LQ for lizard queen. Hess is proud of his creativeness.
- It's still early.... ;-)
- You don't get to his position running for Pres without them, sorry. McCain has just been around longer so we know some of his.
- Being the opposite of something "bad" does not always equal "good". I certainly am not thrilled with the job Bush has done but Obama's tax talk and socialist bent scares me.
- Color/ethnicity has no bearing in my vote and I'm sorry to see/hear people saying they'll vote for him because he's "black". Same thing people were saying about Hillary because she's a woman.
We're going downhill so E36 M3 might as well try something different.
^^ That's a scary attitude!
EDIT - to cover for your edit....
5) I do basically agree with you here. I'm not entire convinced of this missle shield that is pissing everyone off.

Ah. Guess I'm not up on all the latest hip lingo.
I didn't create the LQ pseudonym. Don't credit me for it. It's pop culture. I think it goes back to a Simpsons episode.
ignorant can vote for whoever he wants, of course. It still won't change Little Mac's inauguration. The only way to stop that from happening as of right now, (probability speaking, there's always a very slim chance of it going the other way) is for the LQ to win in Denver. Short of that, say Hello to Little Mac for 4 years or until he keels over from old age, whichever comes first.
umm we are going downhill fast.
I, my friends, my parents, my wife, sister, fully believe that rome is burning and bush is nero. I can't articulate it any other way.

your predicitons are not played out in the data. AGAIN!

Yeah, that's great, iggy. Maybe I'm wrong. It's been known to happen. Just ask my wife. But the show ain't over. Little Mac is gaining and he isn't even running yet. People are starting to look at Da O beyond his nice suits and haircut. They are starting to wonder exactly what "hope for change for hope" means. November will tell.
Hess, you can't attribute that to the Simpsons. There IS a Simpson's Lizard Queen reference, but it's after Lisa drinks the water a the Duff Gardens boat ride. She's trippin' hard and exclaims "I am the Lizard Queen" -- undoubtedly a thinly veiled reference to Jim Morrison, but nothing to do with Hillary Clinton. Attaching it to Hillary is all you, far as I can tell.

since mccain is older.. he'll have larger and bigger skeletons in the closet. 2 way street.
No, Tim, it wasn't me. I picked it up from someone else here on the board who connected LQ with Hillary. You have better search capabilities than the rest of us. Find the first reference to Lizard Queen in the archive. Something like:
select * from (I forget the table name for OT) where (I forget the field name for message text) like '%lizard queen%' order by (I forget the field name for time stamp) desc
I will admit to using the LQ term to reference Hillary. I think it fits very well. I just didn't come up with it. Hey, I would consider voting for the LQ over Little Mac. The LQ said she killed a duck, all by herself instead of her usual method of having a henchman actually pull the trigger. That makes her Pro Gun. Little Mac only sez: "I carried a 45 in Nam..."
My favorite part of this is look at where the pre-primeries where a year ago...
McCain's campain was on the verge of backruptcy
It was ASSumed that it would come down to the LQ vs. Rudy 9/11 (a rematch of the original intended line-up for the 2000 NY senate race)
The R's had no real stand out canidates
IMHO, what won McCain the primary was the fact that they ran winner-takes-all for delagates

Some Roman dude said Nero actually did a lot to help put out the Roman fires. Some claimed he fiddled. Who knows?

all that lead based makeup they put on didn't help.
