I'll be on vacation in Medellín in early May after making my annual pit stop for the Mitty at Road Atlanta.  I'll be there a little over a week and so far I have planned a day trip to Guatape, ride a motorcycle through the jungle, eat/drink, and maybe swing by the Pablo Escobar museum. I'll be staying in the El Poblado area if anybody is familiar. Anybody else been there recently and have some must dos (besides avoid being kidnapped)?

YouTuber Itchy Boots is on a motorcycle trip from south America to Alaska, and left Columbia not long ago.  Check out her videos.  https://www.youtube.com/c/ItchyBoots/videos

I may be wrong, but from the looks of Instagram, PetrolBurner on here just took what looks like a pretty epic trip to Colombia.  Might be worth reaching out to him...?

See if you can bring back some jackets from the source on the cheap.

I was just talking about her in another thread and I guess I didn't realize she already did Colombia. I don't watch every video of hers but that would be helpful. Ironically, she will probably be here in Alaska while I'm in Charlotte for work or something.

Does PetrolBurner have a thread on here? Looks like there are quite a few PetrolBurner variant IG accounts. I'll have to check out his stuff

I spent 3 days in Medillin.  Wasn't able to get out much.  Weather was perfect, food was great, people were very friendly.  Would like to go back and see more

May does get into the rainy season in Columbia. So you may think about that if you have a choice of timing. April-May and October-November are the historically wet months. I was there once in November and it literally rained almost non-stop all week  Getting into the jungle in the wet season is a total mess and not recommended.

I'm assuming you will have a guide for the motorcycle tour? Hate for you to end up in a place you shouldn't be in.

Being at the altitude and latitude it is, The temperatures are usually great year round.

^ I'll have a guide for the trip and it sounds like a small group will be going besides me. Rain doesn't bother me at all. Anything above 40f is perfectly fine regardless of precipitation. I don't have any flexibility on timing since I'll already be on that side of the world (or much closer) so it's gonna have to do.

Any other "must sees" in town for those who have been?

Didn't get murdered or kidnapped or forced to smuggle anything back in my prison pocket. Colombia on two wheels was amazing for anybody considering it.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

I went to Costa Rica in November and I really have a pull to central and South America. How was interacting with the locals in Columbia? When we left Costa Rica, my wife and I both agreed that the true treasure of CR was the people. The most welcoming, kind people I've ever met.

Looks like you had a great time. Glad you enjoyed it. I will agree with Scotty's statement about the people being the true gem. Had so much fun with just random families on each of my trips.

The people, weather, food, scenery....all of it was amazing. Google translate was super helpful throughout the trip and most people had it on their phones too. If it was a word I didn't know, we just had conversations through text on the phone. It's only intimidating if you let it be.

Lane splitting a motorcycle through Medellin traffic is one of the most death defying things I've ever done though. I would need a beer after every trip somewhere.

Also I saw this hat and it cracked me up. They get this a lot. laugh
