So I found out I still have mine. And have never used it. How good is it? I asked at turbobricks what I could do with it and all I got back was the sound of silence. So, anyone here want to tell me what that piece of history can do? I Understand the latest versions can do much more (they better!), but this is what I got.

I'm still using a 1.01 box I got from a GRM'er in 2007ish.
Fuel only, standard code, works just fine.
The only problem with it, is that whenever I bring up that I'm using a 1.01, I get inundated with OMG WHY ARE YOU USING OLD STUFF GET A MS3 IT'S WAY BETTER-ER.
If I'm gonna spend $1000 on a computer, it's going to be an XFI, which also has its quirks as well.
(still unsure what is go great about MS3, for an engine that prefers straight timing and would probably work perfectly fine with a 1x2 fuel map)
I wonder if you can upgrade it to MS2 using the daughter board? It replaces the existing processor with a new one, so it's just a matter of making sure the I/O pins connect properly.

The daughter board is available from DIYAutotune.com for about $100.

When I'd ask around about that, nobody was willing to help figure out the other board mods needed. "Just get a 2.2 or 3.0 board, it was designed for it."
Then I found out that the code I wanted to use was buggy on MS2 and MS1 was the preferred solution, so I dropped the idea.

How good is it? I'm still running my first MS with no faults after 10 yeas and over 50k miles. It has out lived its first car and 4 trans. and counting. If you need any mods you cant do just ship it to me. Ill do the labor at no charge. Its you GRM discount.

Honestly I am not sure. I have never used it. Bought it long time ago as a kit (with the 4bar map), put it together -- poorly (I sucked at soldering then, but got better) --had a friend correct my soldering mistakes and run it through megastim. And that is as far as I went.
As a FI system, what are its limitations as far as getting timing? For instance, my Volvo uses LH 2.4 with signal from a VR crank position sensor. My Saab uses LH 2.2, which uses the distributor (like a VW) for timing.

MS has no limitation's!!!!!!!!!
It can control any thing form your trans to you Ignition!!
Some soldering required,,,,
Mad Scientist, or something like that, works there I think.
Read the MegaManual. The short of it is, yes, MS can be configured to read any kind of crank trigger.
What I wanted to do was put a Ford 30-1 wheel (30 teeth, missing one) on the back of the crank pulley and just read that. Crank wheels are always more stable than trying to read off of a distributor - I've read that the FC RX-7 crank sensor (which just takes the place of the old distributor) will vary by ten degrees because of gear lash. It's worse when you are reading a distributor run off of the end of a camshaft or intermediate shaft.

I dont remeber the details of the v1.06, but I might have some old schematics saved from the group buys, and the yahoo list might still have some info.
It should do anything the later versions do with the upgraded processors/software. However the hardware mods will be undocumented. I do know there were big changes to some driver circuits early in.
Anyway upgrade to ms/extra code on yours and you can get ignition an lots of other features.

Some description of the changes after v1.01 to v2.2
If you need/want specific help in a feature, let me know.
Basically, you can treat it as if it's a V2.2., but without the breakout jumpers that the V2.2 added to make the mods easier. It can be upgraded with an MS2 processor if you want, but an MS3 would be a bit of a challenge to add.
I'm pretty sure there never was a V1.06, though; you may want to check to be sure that isn't a number on something else like an MS2 daughter card. Everything in the MegaSquirt world has version numbers; you want the number on the main PCB itself.
