I think the existence of Pontiac engines is more likely to confuse Canadians than the use of cubic inches. 

(Canadian market Pontiacs had Chevrolet engines and rode on Chevrolet chassis for years)

Any time I hear people say big block Pontiac or small block Pontiac I internally go "Oh, you have no clue what you're talking about."
