Fun fact...studies show that galvanic skin responses are greater when subjects are asked to speak publicly than when being told by a doctor that they're terminally ill.
I wound up with a job function that requires a lot of public speaking even though I'm an introvert and I'm not handsome or anything like that.
Honestly, after all of these years I still get a little nervious but two rules make it tolerable...finish when you finish (refuse to fill a time slot) and be 100% naked (be exactly who you truly are warts and all).
When I started in my role two decades ago my company had professional coaches watch my presentations and provide guidance...one thing I'll never forget their saying was that I needed to stop walking out onto the stage with my hands in my pockets as it indicated submissiveness and a lack of confidence.
I followed their advice on the next presentation but I felt completely unnatural doing so (violation of what later would become Rule #2) and it took me much, much longer to get the audience where I needed them to be as a group. That night I watched Jay Leno do his opening monologue on the Tonight Show and he did the exact...same...thing.
He came out with his hands in his pockets to convey that the show hadn't officially started yet and then he pulled his hands out of his pockets when it was go time.

Just think about how averages work for a second...to hit that number, how many people have to spend literally zero dollars per year to balance out a car guy with a racing habit?
I know I spend four-figure money on my habit, er, hobby, annually, and that first figure isn't a one.
