Looks like I'm going to be able to get a shop. I think Dr Hess posted a while back that metal buildings are the cheapest way to go, which I've sort of thought too (willing to hear reasons why they might not be). I've got plenty of space to sit the building on site (1.6 acre, 3 bed house already there).

Needs to hold three cars, with one of them used daily. Would like some storage and work areas too. It'll have power and I may do a half bath too, but that would come latter.

Any recommendations? I don't want to spend a lot, it's a shop. I'll be doing as much of the work as possible myself. I was actually looking at the Quonset hut style buildings, I think those are the cheapest.

Thanks,

J

Bumping this old thread because I was also curious, and didn't see what the most grassroots shop solution was via searching.

Is the Quonset hut steel building the cheapest shop structure out there?

Say I want a 30x40 and don't care about insulation/etc., just a closed permanent structure (i.e. no tarps/carports) to get out of the weather as cheaply as possible.

If one excluded lighting/insulation/electrical, and did all the assembly themself.
