That was pretty cool. I'd love to hear Hetfield's opinion of it. He'd probably be amused.
It's likely due to familiarity and being tuned in 4ths (compared to 5ths on most other stringed instruments), but its freaking hard to play guitar using major scales and normal tuning.
That makes sense. I know that the chord progressions in christmas carols feel weird to me on a guitar....except, of course, Silent Night. It was written with a guitar, the rest are mostly piano.
One song that's kinda fun is the Star Spangled Banner, since it's basically an arpeggiated C major chord.

Deliverance did a version of silent night on their "what a joke" album that is so awesome!
Thank you for reminding me what a bunch of (gay slur)s Metallica is. berkeley I hate those shiny happy people.

you don't like a popular band. so edgy, you are.

i'm just about as big a Metallica fan as you will find, but i thought that a lot of people made some really funny stuff making fun of them back then. i loved that one episode of South Park where they showed Lars crying outside of his mansion because he had to buy a smaller private island than the one he wanted because of Napster... and what most people forget about the whole Napster thing was that they merely wanted to have control over where and how their music was being distributed- something that every artist would agree with if it wasn't the biggest metal band in the history of ever doing the complaining... Lars got pissed when a demo of a song they were working on (I Disappear, i think??) got out before they were done with it and decided that someone had to take a stand.

After coming out with the best thrash record to date, Metallica came out with the berkeleying worst butt-rock record to date. A couple years ago, they got paid to record their sessions with psychiatrists and cried and aired it on TV. Super Edgy. I love Prince. And Van Halen. And Iron Maiden. E36 M3, I can't not sing along with 90% of Michael Jackson songs if they come on the radio. I berkeleying HAAAATE Metallica. My only hope is that one day, their life source (semen) will dry up, and they'll wither and fade away like creepy old berkeleying vampire harpsichordists.

How many hipsters does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Angry's mom.
OMG... have you followed any of the links? Europe, RHCP, Beatles, Michael Jackson.... its good stuff.

You want to know how to make better music than Metallica?
Leave Metallica. Worked for Dave and worked for Jason.
Four good albums and the rest is crap.
I really like Death Magnetic. I also like St Anger. I also think Slipknot gets better with each album.
DM was okay. It sounded like a mid level thrash band trying to be Metallica.
St. Anger sounded like a garage band of 15 year olds huffing paint.
Slipknot is just bad.
Blackend is the end, winter it will send.
Throwing all you see, into obscurity.
Death of mother earth, never a rebirth.
Evolutions end, never will it mend.

everyone has an opinion, and sometimes they differ from each other.. and that's ok.
what has Megadeth done that was better than Metallica? yeah, Dave played faster and louder and yeah Dave whines about a lot of stuff, but that doesn't equal "better".. i'm also also a big Megadeth fan, but Dave needs to get over E36 M3 that happened 30 years ago.. i guess Hook in Mouth, In My Darkest Hour, and a Tout Le Mond were pretty great songs, so there's that...
what has Newsted done that was better than what he did in Metallica? i'm sure he brought Voivod to a whole new level of obscurity that was a half a level above where they were before he was in the band, but i can't stand Voivod so i can't make an educated statement on that... i saw the preview of his new video a couple of months ago, and it was ok.. not great, but ok.. he did some good work as Rob's replacement in Ozzy's band, i guess.. every interview that i've ever seen with him he has said that he was grateful for his time in Metallica and that he learned a lot from the whole experience but they just grew apart, so i don't see why everyone always has to make the "he's better off without them" jabs all the time.
if you like the music for whatever reason, then listen to it.. if you don't like it for whatever reason, then don't listen to it. it's really not very complicated...
In reply to novaderrik:
Yeah... Everyone made fun of Lars and Mettalica back then, but if you actually read everything he was trying to say, he wasn't fighting for themselves, but for the less known bands struggling to make money playing music.
But jumping to conclusions is so much easier, so why the berk read anything more than the headlines...
Some of these posts make it obvious how little folks are really paying attention... Dave Mustang and Lars/Hetfield reconciled a few years ago. Dig around on youtube and you'll find videos of them goofing off.

HEY. HEY. NO.
It can't be a Metallica thread without someone bashing Metallica. I own most of their stuff aside from S&M and St. Anger, first one because I don't care, second one because it is legitimately bad. Now back to our regularly scheduled program....
LULU, your move Derrik
E: why the holy tits are ads showing up in my post?

Not to mention the fact that artists are legally required to defend their copyrights, or else they are considered abandoned and the copyrights disappear. I'm not a huge fan of Metallica and I pretty much loathe Disney, but when they lawyer up to defend their property, they are NOT just being shiny happy people. If they don't do it, they lose legal claim to their own material.
