I grew up walking distance from this theater and it's an amazing theater.
This summer they are playing American Graffiti. I say we all meet up, watch the movie and have a blast. Here's a little more info:
The Redford is a restored 1920's movie house. It fell into disrepair. The neighborhood I grew up in didn't want it turned into a porn multi-plex. The city said "sure, we'll let you block the development, but the theater can only play "family friendly" movies, and has to be non-profit. That was 30 something years ago if I remember correctly. It still plays family friendly movies ( check out the calendar ) and is a sight so see. It was restored, mostly by volunteers to the glory that it once was.
Yup, it's in the heart of the ghetto, but it has guarded parking, and they have a Saturday matinee (2 pm) and it's safe.
Let's go, Saturday June 16th at 2 PM. It's only $4.00 and well worth it. This neighborhood is currently going through a resurgence fueled by the Motor City Blight Busters and shows lots of promise.
Who's in? I'll be there for sure.
A few years ago they played the Italian Job and lots of classic minis showed up. Mine was on stage and in the lobby, it was a GREAT time!
