Somebody who isn't me (seriously, it wasn't me, I don't do that E36 M3 anymore) got popped for 70 something in a 55, written as 5 over (but the 70 number is on the ticket), 2 lane road, Ingham county 55th district.
They're hoping to at least get it knocked down to no points, assuming this is MCLA 257.62801-10 SPEED 1-10 OVER (2 points), and not MCLA 257.628B01-10 INTERSTATE SPEEDING 1-5 OVER (0 points). Ticket just says 257.628 and it's not in the computer yet, so we don't know.
EDIT: Also, car is wearing it's factory black paint, ticket says "BLU", anything there?
Go to court. More than likely, the judge will keep or raise the fine, but eliminate the points. There is a court time on the ticket.
I challenged a ticket (thought I was right, but the judge told me that it had already gone to the supreme court, and I was wrong)- he raised the fine, but eliminated the points. And he was doing that for most in the courtroom.

This one doesn't seem to have a date, just says "within 10 business days". EDIT: That's the "appearance date" not the hearing date, apparently you gotta get ahold of them within 10 days for date.
i've had a cop not show up in Ingham county, and ticket thrown out. If you have a clean record I've also had a ticket like this dropped to no points and fine only as well.

I don't know crap about MI.
I have, however, had several tickets thrown out because of incorrect info (wrong address, wrong tag, etc).
I would tell the Judge the info on the ticket was clearly wrong. It can't be 5 over if the speed was 70.
Worst case, nothing gained.

I've got to court for every ticket I've ever had (MI resident here). The bogus ones all stood up in court, even of physics said the LEO was wrong, but every one I actually deserved (doing donuts in front of a cop, hitting a 4-wheel drift when a cop saw me) were knocked down to the same fine, no points. It's just a tax. They want their money, they don't care about anything else. Cops are tax-enforcement officers, they will get the money.
Now, after making myself sound like a moron, I didn't know the cop was there when I was doing the donuts (he was hiding 75 yards away) and didn't know the cop was 100' from the intersection when I got the mini drifting around the corner.
I also want to add, I'm smarter now. I don't do that stuff anymore.
If it is a moving violation, the state get a share. If it gets knocked down to a non-moving violation, it stays in the district. They have an interest in taking the points off

Then show up within 10 days. Bring the ticket, and hope for the best.
I have a good recent story about GOOD customer service. We got a parking ticket in Detroit because I'm stupid, and crossed two numbers when we paid the parking fare. We called that afternoon, the first lady was nice (even in the face of a little rudeness), the second guy was even nicer (we changed our tone), and told them I was stupid. They dropped the ticket. This is all Detroit parking system. Good people.
My clean record has gotten me out of two mi tickets of late. Paid the fine and wave the points.
Call in for an appearce, they usually schedule something a month or so away. Many cities will offer you an inflated 'parking' ticket. You pay a little more than your speeding ticket, but no points. My 10 over became 'double parking' $150. There was a line of 50 other folks getting the same deal. They just want the money....

make sure the cop put the right info on the ticket. i was told that my ticket was taken care of by a family member in the same department. year and a half later i had to turn myself in and be arrested because of failure to appear/bench warrant. officer pullmeoverfornomudflapsonmyflatbed wrote wrong last name, county, street on ticket so they sent notices to a fictional person. bmv somehow took that fictional info and suspended my license. i argued that i was not the person on the ticket and that it wasnt my address and got shot down. had to go back to court and plead guilty just to pay them and get out of there.
I think my being a senior citizen has helped me a few times.
Stopping officer ended up with, "going a little fast there"
No ticket.
