A cow just flew past our window, twice. At first I thought it was 2 cows, but just the same one again.

Just kidding. But we're holing up here in the basement. Still have power and wifi, for now. REALLY strong winds.

Lots of downed branches here, doesn't look like any have hit any houses that I can see.

Street has about a foot of water in the gutters.

Overall we seem to have stood our ground against it. I'm seeing rumors of a tornado sighting about 3 miles from me; based on the wind we received I believe it.

Surprisingly calm here in OKC.

But it's not unusual on a nice day to have 15-20 mph sustained winds with 35+ gusts.

I realize the derecho is much stronger.

I never even heard the term derecho until about this time last year. So I can assume that next year Volkswagen will name their all-new sub-mid-size-crossover-activity-vehicle after it?

I recall a Derecho in DC end of June 2012.  We didn't have power the whole following week.  I feel like all I did for a week was sweat profusely.

I learned what this word means, today. It's just now starting to look pretty cloudy/stormy here in Detroit metro. It was a little windy today but not bad, glad we missed out (hopefully) on what you guys are getting.

I remember that one too, I ran out in the downpour to move our cars away from trees and almost collapsed from being too damn cold. Big mess the whole week after, downed trees everywhere. Get to sharpening your chainsaws, they are gonna be useful.

Currently sitting in a Detroit suburb hotel room learning about this. Looking at a weather channel map hoping the bottom edge of this nonsense doesn't do what I think it's going to do in Bowling Green because I was really looking forward to playing racecar this weekend.

When that hit we were in Dover for what I think was the short-lived Evo Super Shootout. The wind was howling while I was laying in bed in the hotel not being able to sleep. Our house is on a very wooded lot and I could only imagine how many trees had fallen on the house and cars and here we were two hours away not being able to do a thing about it. We got away pretty unscathed fortunately.

2012, I went a week without power with that one.  One of the few times I was truly terrified when it came through at 1am.  My mother is from the Mid-west, the sounds it made sounded like every explanation she ever gave for how a tornado sounds when it is bearing down on you.

How many derechos to make an izquierdo?

We're good here. Some downed wood in the neighborhood, power out long enough for the generator to kick on, but grid came back before the transfer switch switched. (So the power was out like 45 seconds).

It came and went amazingly fast for us. You could tell the system was cooking across the US.

Seems like Iowa got the worst of it:

It was windy at my place and eventually rained, but it didn't do any damage thankfully. Not even the worst storm of the season. I did get to see lightning strike the telephone pole at he corner though which was neat because we didn't lose power.

It hit here about 4 PM, I'm near Chicago.  It mostly just took leaves and small dead branches off my and my neighbors trees. But just before it hit I lost power. There was no lighting at the time.  Most the the area was without power but some areas near by did. It must have just been the luck of the draw. I finally went to bed about 10 PM as there was nothing to do with out power.  About 2.30 AM my computer powered up and I heard the TV go on in the other room.  Got up and turned them off and went back to sleep.   That is all.
