Did the OSHA 10 hour, now my company decides I need the OSHA 30 instead. As well as arc flash training even though I only work with low voltage stuff. I have an exciting couple of weeks watching PowerPoints ahead of me

I am so sorry.

I have never been so bored in my life. Those are by far the worst training videos I have ever had to experience. I'm reasonably certain watching them makes a person dumber.

People!

It's the 2nd of January. We don't need to do all of 2024's work on the first day back at the office. Slow down a little and let me catch my breath. Maybe procrastinate a little and spread this E36 M3 out some.

Thanks

I describe the OSHA 10-hour training as physical pain being inflicted through a computer screen.

There is more than enough work to do on our team. If you tell me you can't work on something because of (reasons), I'm going to point to the giant pile of work waiting to get done and advise you to work on some of that while you're waiting for an update. At the very least, revise some of the procedures or documentation we all agree need to be updated.

I can't remember if I read or heard this - and I sure can't remember who wrote or said it - but I adopted this habit of saying "well, why NOT me?" when something unpleasant happens to me.  It's not intended in a self-loathing fashion, but more as a response to the "why me?" that is my first instinct.  What makes me so special that I should expect that whatever this bad thing is should befall someone else and not land on my own doorstep?  I find that it helps to take the edge off the frustration a bit.

From a faith background, I also realize that through our fallen nature we rely on divine mercy so as not to get what we truly deserve, but are instead offered grace and love that we could never earn, imperfect as we are.  In fact, I find the most terrifying line of prayer to be "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us".  I know damned well that I'm going to need a lot more forgiveness than I've doled out and if my trespasses are only as forgiven as the amount of forgiveness that I've given in my lifetime, I'm going to be in some trouble.

But my rant for the day is just a recycled one.  I was hoping they'd wait at least a few days, but nope - first day back I had the opportunity to have grown-up story time and read another manual aloud.

1. I wish people would park their cars in the damn driveway instead of the street.
2. To go with the first, we constantly see on RING community of people getting their cars broken into. And these are kids so they aren't smashing windows they are just checking to see if the doors are unlocked. Saw one just the other day, gun and iMac stolen out of the car. Why would you leave that in your car anyway? Why don't you lock your damn doors? Why don't you just park in the garage? All the neighborhoods around us and ours are 2-3 car garage homes.

Hell we lock our car doors even though we park in the garage and don't leave anything in them.

I lock my doors but has it become too much to ask, just to be able to leave your own possessions in your own vehicle and expect them to stay there?

Good grief how about punishing thieves for once?

Maybe sharia law has some good points. Maybe we take a finger every time a thief gets caught? Eventually the problem will correct itself.

I'm so tired of the police and others saying "better lock up your stuff" when it should be "steal something and suffer the consequences".

It's really not that hard to keep your hands off of stuff that doesn't belong to you.

I never leave E36 M3 in my cars, and I never lock the doors, even when I worked in the GTA, but I guess it's a law in Quebec, and you'll get a ticket if you don't

When I have my Wrangler out I never lock it, simply because I'd rather have someone open the door to find that there's nothing in there than have them cut open the soft top to find the same.

My house and property are covered by a multitude of cameras. 10 total. Most areas are covered by at least two cameras from different angles. There is signage informing the blind that they are being recorded at all times and that they should smile for the cameras.

I get alerts for motion videos of kids walking up by driveway on occasion. As soon as the LEDs on the cameras light up they turn around and do their shopping elsewhere.

I frequently forget to lock my truck. I also occasionally forget to close the shop door. So far, it hasn't been an issue.

When I lived in B.C. if you left your keys in your vehicle and it got stolen, all you got from the insurance company was a big f-you.

It's not too much to ask, but I'm a realist. We don't even take the BRZ downtown at night to shows and stuff because of the kind of attention that car draws.

The thieves have to be caught to be punished. It's hard to catch a masked, hoodie kid with no pictures or finger prints.

As for the Sharia/Hammurabi type stuff, it's already been proven not to deter crime. If I kill you, depending on the where the crime happens I could either be executed or spend life behind bars.

There were still more than 21,000 homicides in the US in 2022. And 874 in Canada.

I live between a homeless shelter and a church that gives out free meals and coffee everyday so there's a ton of foot traffic by homeless people, yet stuff never gets stolen. I've left Amazon packages out for a couple days while out of town and they're still there when I get back. Yet I know people in much nicer neighborhoods that have constant theft. No real point to this story, just an interesting comparison

I love dogs.  My wife loves dogs.  But we have two dogs right now.  One is about 120-130lbs depending on if he stole a loaf of bread recently and the other is around 70lbs.  Our house is not tiny, by any stretch, but it's not huge.  Your average 2000-2500 ftft house on a third of an acre.  It's five of us, the two dogs, a stupid cat, and two lizards.  Fine.  My wife is constantly looking at dogs.  And not just browsing the shelters' facebook pages, but physically going to pet stores and playing with the dogs that are up for adoption.  Apparently over the weekend she found some dog that she will not quit talking about.  Personally, I would like to have _a_ dog but because she wanted the little dog a couple years ago, she brought him home and we've got two.  I really do not want three dogs in this house.  We're already overrun with dog hair and you can't walk from room to room without tripping over a couch hippo.  So all I've heard for the last 48 hours is whining about how much she wants this other dog.  I've told her that I really don't want three dogs because we're full around here, but every five minutes it's "can I get that dog?".

The funny part is that she keeps countering my refusal with "I let you have as many cars as you want".  As though I have as many cars as I want!

My car sat over the holidays and wouldn't start last night. It's an 8 year old car and it needs a battery, no big.

It takes an oddball that nobody has in stock... and is crazy expensive.

A 26R is identical except for the the hold down lugs, and half the price. I need front and back lugs. It's side to side.

Why can't they make universal batteries?

Grrr.
