The middle of BFE New Mexico. Specifically Clovis.
No people, no traffic, no humidity and a reasonable cost of living. I can't berkeleying wait
Interesting......I will remember that for future reference

We bought a house that exact color, the doors, the ceiling, the trim and the carpet was even kinda close.
Exactly how bad is your overall mood if everything has to be Hearing Aid Beige?
I mean, the previous house I lived in had beige walls. But it was a light beige and the paint was a flat finish with white trim. It looked clean and modern.
This disaster was hideous. It made it look like chain smokers lived here for 50 years.

You probably aren't wrong about the smokers aspect.
Ever wonder why "soft white" lightbulbs are so prevalent? Nicotine staining
In reply to stanger_mussle (Supported by GRM undergarments) :
At least it looks like they had painted the ceilings white... for some reason all of the rooms in our house have the ceilings painted the same color (beige for most of the house, but blue for the bathrooms) as the walls.

I have 2 bosses.
Boss1 worries constantly about how we are going to get all the work done.
Boss2 always thinks that we are one job away from starving to death.
They're kind of both right.
The theoretical solution to both those problems is to increase your billing rate until you get rid of the cheapest 10% of your customers. Then, if you are still too busy or broke, do it again.
The trick is to know when to pause that.
Two phone conversations I had today. As a frame of reference, it was -37 at 10;00 this morning.
"I need a new battery. My car didn't start with the remote starter this morning, but did when I used the key. The block heater wasn't plugged in."
"I had my car in last September. Do you know where my block heater cord is?"
I'm pretty impressed that I didn't call either one an idiot.

Clovis is definitely BFE. We stopped for fuel at the Love's there on a trip this fall.
I do understand the attraction of rural living, though.
RE: Clovis At least you have Buddy Holly history. And Lubbock has (I think) an SCCA region. I spent 20 years in Roswell, which is 200 miles from anywhere, except Clovis. Wait until spring, when the winds blow incessantly for about two months, and you see the brown skies of New Mexico blowing east into West Texas. Much of New Mexico is gorgeous, I love northern New Mexico, but the eastern plains (the Spanish called them the llano estacado, staked plains) are pretty bleak. Big dairy country, though. If you like Old West history, though, be sure to get over to Lincoln, about 50 miles West of Roswell. Albuquerque has a pretty active SCCA region, and a racetrack, also a PCA region IIRC.

Just be careful on I40 west of Albuquerque. Drive in the daylight when it isn't snowing.

No phones answered. No emails responded. Oh but they took my money alright. I wonder how hard my CU is going to fight to get my money back... I suppose it's a Monday problem.

Found some shingles off my shop on the ground yesterday after we had a storm pass through (50mph winds)... I've been calling roofing companies, and so far the soonest I can get someone out to look at it is March 21st...

Okay you berkeleying morons, let's go over this one more time. If the traffic light is completely out of service, that is to say that there are NO lights lit up at all, that becomes a stop sign. For those of you chewing on the paint chips in the back of the class that means that you come to a full and complete stop at the intersection and then the car that has stopped first has right-of-way and then so on.
If the traffic light is blinking yellow that means proceed through the intersection with caution. It does not mean come to a full and complete stop and yield right-of-way to a vehicle that has a flashing red light.
Oh I know I have a habit of wanting/shopping/buying cars we don't need. I know I have a fair bit of money tied up in toys and hobbies (but I'm not the only one). And yes, I know you've always wanted one, but that is a LOT* of money for a vehicle that doesn't work, needs completely rebuilt, doesn't have AC/Cruise/ABS/SRS... or the ability to do 70mph.
Even if the seller is competent to diagnose the issues and it is a relatively simple fix, we still don't have anywhere to put it.
But it's my fault. I'm the bad guy.
*more than both our cars combined
-20 is too berkeleying cold

I'm always kinda stunned at how much those go for, like.....wrecks are somehow 15k at times
In reply to Antihero :
This is down from 14k. But not enough. She's still upset her dad sold the one he let rot for 30 years. Unfortunately, I'm not confident she'll ever get one, but I don't know what I can do about that.

I feel you, my wife's dream car is a 69 z28 Camaro. Current prices are way outside what I'd pay for a car.
On the plus side she has recently started liking the 3rd Gen Camaros, which is much easier
In reply to Antihero :
Makes me wish I'd have been able to snap up the Pinto she spotted a couple weeks ago. At least that one would have been cheap.

Thanks for the info!
I put in an offer for the house we have been looking at and the sellers accepted it this morning. The closing costs are just north of $9k.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to be broke as hell for the first couple of months between the cost of moving and buying a house.
But look at all the parking for projects!
