Whew.  A free fix.  The idiots that live in my house do not clean out the lint trap every time they use the dryer and a huge hunk of lint was jammed in the blower.

Cleaning the lint trap is such a simple, wonderful joy. I can't imagine NOT doing it.  Like, I feel a small sense of loss when I do laundry and there isn't much there to clean out.

Are you ever going to stop talking child? It's exhausting just listening to you drone on and on about absolutely everything. We don't even get a break when you're asleep, because you talk in your damn sleep.

Enjoy these days as they leave for college someday and are too busy to call home......sad

We are still in the hotel after arriving in NM from FL on the 1st. Things are moving along with purchasing the house. The appraisal was done last Thursday and was supposed to be submitted to my lender the following day. It's now Wednesday the following week and the appraiser still has not submitted the appraisal. We were hoping to close on the house by the end of this week but it looks like that isn't going to happen.

It's not like there are a lot of home appraisers in town to choose from. There are two. This guy and someone my realtor has never heard of.

This is a very sensitive timeline as we need to close on the house before our household items arrive. It is scheduled to arrive between the 9th and 13th of Feb. I already have a 10x30' storage unit rented to hold the GF's non-running Jeep Wrangler and the contents of the little 4x8 uhaul trailer. I REALLY don't want to unload an entire 28' semi trailer into a storage unit to then move everything into the house two days later.

Yay, more berkeleying stress.

Need a rubber truck bed mat - ooohhh I'll be in Des Moines and there's a large manufacturer's Outlet Store - seconds or defective crap and new stuff.

Guy tells me $125.

I tell him they are $119 at Farm/Fleet and last week on sale for $108.  Isn't this the factory outlet store?

He says, no bed mat for you......

I feel your pain.  At least our situation isn't as time sensitive...

Our old house is currently in escrow and the buyer's appraiser undervalued it by ~ $30k because he used a comp that sold about $90k under market due to a cracked foundation and many other needed repairs.  Now we're tied up trying to unberkeley the whole thing and get a valid appraisal so the (pre-qual'd) buyer can get her lending.

When we bought that house 17 years ago, I thought appraisers were whacked... doesn't look like much has changed...

Holy crap.

TL:DR  When you don't do your job and it ends up shorting me a pile of money, if you choose to blow me off when I call you on it, you're only making it harder on yourself

I've been waiting about 5 months for some money to clear through the bank in order to settle my Mom's estate. I understand that these things take time, but I got the call yesterday, we have a draft for you at the local branch, come in any time to get it.

I head into the small town branch, the teller asks for ID, gives it to me and I start to walk out when I think it might be prudent to check the draft just in case. Which turned out to be a good idea. It was short by about half a mil. As soon as I said something the lady at the desk beside the teller's area spoke right up, oh, I can look a that for you sir. Five minutes of her typing and looking at her screen, she rips up the first one and has a new one made out for the correct amount, calls (I assume) the assistant manager over for a signature, and hands it to me. I ask, what happened, how is it even possible, and what are you going to do about it? She fumbles through some lame excuse and I double down, demand an answer, and call her on the BS response. She responds with, you have your money now, what does it matter?

Oh really?

I leave and call Mom's investment guy who makes a few of his own calls. I get a call from the branch manager this morning apologizing and telling me that her employees cut corners, didn't follow protocol, the assistant manager signed off on it without even looking, and the teller handed it over to me without verifying if it was what it was supposed to be. She assured me that there have been serious repercussions and severe disciplinary action for both the mistakes and the attitude, and asks what she can do to make me happy. I say nothing, as long as it's looked after and doesn't happen to somebody else.  I really just wanted to see that B get her pee pee slapped. So she asks me, if you were to go out for a nice dinner, where would it be?  I tell her an expensive steakhouse we like and she insists on buying us dinner to compensate for my time and aggravation. So I'm waiting to see how big the gift card is going to be.

I might owe a 25% apology to Toyota owners...  I had a 2023 Camry as a rental and it was equipped with automatic brights.  Now, I've had a couple Mercedes loaners with those and they worked really well with my only complaint being that they were a little too quick to think that objects down the road were other cars and would turn off the brights when it shouldn't have.  The ones in the Toyota, however, seemed to delight in turning on especially when there was oncoming traffic as though their job was nothing more than to blind other drivers.  So those of you that have Toyotas that I've cursed for not turning your damned brights off, if you were depending on the automatic brights you get a 25% apology.  You're still 75% at fault for not realizing what was going on and turning those things off.  But I'm a little bit sorry I cursed your children and made assumptions about your relationship with your mother.

Well thank you!  Disclosure, we have a 2022 Camry hybrid that has those as well as a 2017 Explorer.  I didn't know what was happening the first time I drove the Explorer at night, embarrassing to say the least.  Pulled into a parking lot and found how to turn that off right away and disabled it on the Camry before ever driving it at night.   I can figure out how to use the high beams on my own thanks.

The high intensity LED lights on all the newer cars are another rant all in itself.

I was always taught, if there is anybody in your field of view, turn them off. Even if they are two miles up the road.

Been fighting some kind of flu and thankfully, managed it before it could become pneumonia or bronchitis. And I KNOW it could have, because the coughing i've had has been bringing up lung butter.

Imagine mucus thats hardened and compressed into a rubber consistency, the kind that comes out of you from coughing so hard you feel your shoulder going out of whack because you're wretching so hard. The times when you can't take a super deep breath because it triggers something in your deep lungs that gets irritated and makes you cough hard and long. THAT is what's being coughed out of me now.

We've done the chunk of rubber or a piece of conveyor belt. My last Chevrolet mat fit perfectly and was really anti slip. Those are $165.00.

Shoot, I sell rubber by the roll and can sample out a piece if I wanted.....(too slippery)

My 2023 Ford Maverick is the first vehicle I've ever owned that has auto high beams. After about 3 times driving at night, I disabled them. I found that they were quick to enable the high beams but sluggish to drop them. I'm sure I dazzled a few people at night.

Yeah, I'll be the judge of when to use them, thanks.

In my area, engine machine shops have been disappearing 1 after another over the last 10 years.

I called the last competent machinist in the area in the first week of January to check in, as I was starting teardown of an engine. He was busy but said no problem, drop the parts off whenever.

Pistons and bearings finally arrived from Dubai, so a block, crank, heads manifolds, flywheel, pistons, main bearings, cam bearings got loaded on the little trailer and I drove 35 miles to the shop. When I got there I was told Ed had a heart attack and is probably off work forever.

Sorry to hear about Ed, but I have a thousand dollars of new parts, a pile of engines on the trailer and no machine shop.
