Something went wrong last week with the cavity filling. Hurts bad enough i can't see straight.

Hurts worse than they did before I had them worked on. This is why I haven't been to a dentist in 20 years yay I get to go back tomorrow. I just want to sleep as the hurt hasn't let me. Not a happy man right now

Why does every conversation with a close relative have to be political? Talking about the kids swim practice? Snide political comment. Talking about walking to the new restaurant down the street? Snide political comment. Cooking dinner for a party? You guess it, snide political comment thrown in out of nowhere. I absolutely never bring up politics to this person, or any topic even close. But every berkeleying time they try to steer it to whatever stupid talking point of the day has been issued.

My basic line is that there's nothing to gain by talking politics and everything to loose. Nobody's opinion is going to change, but a relative or friend may never look at you the same way again - and vice versa. I'd much rather have you as a motorhead buddy than a political enemy.

When the EE on the project needs you to make him a bracket, and you ask him to send you a sketch.

WTH is that?  I've seen better work done on a napkin, at the bar, with a marker, 2 beers deep.

Oh my goodness.

I was almost able to forgive it until I looked harder, and then harder yet. "whole"?

I have a friend like that. I tend to drop just ridiculously crazy opinions on him and it tends to stop.

Like "why don't we put jet engines on the sides of air craft Carriers?"

Which can usually get the subject change, but you gotta be able to follow up to get back to a normal conversation.

"Ya, jet engines on the carriers. Get them all thrusting the same way, say counter clockwise, and fly the aircraft carrier to the desert. Doesn't need to move when it's there, and then you got full air support with a lower fuel cost"

Just an example. Sometimes if you let them get really carried away first, you can watch their brain slam to a halt and try to shift gears to catch-up.

Plus, no dimension (such as they are) for inset of the "wholes" from the top and bottom.

Or diameter of the "wholes".

And I assume the "W=0.5 CM" means thickness?  As in 5 mm?

We're fortunate- for the most part our relatives know better than to try and start any kind of political conversation. Several of them though only because of us making it very clear that if they start, we will simply leave (even if we're 10 hours from home over the holidays). Thankfully they have all taken us seriously and more wanted us there for holidays and celebrations than they've wanted to try and push their political opinions. Pretty much just one relative won't get the clue, but at least a) they've mellowed a fair bit from where they used to be and b) we don't stay with them when we visit, we get a (fairly nice) AirBnB a few minutes away where we can happily retreat if things get too bad. We never start a political conversation unless it's with close friends who we know can have a civilized conversation about things.

My poor office staff has to deal with that every day. I can understand when it's people off the street, but it's amazing how many veteran contractors and architects can't draw their way out of a paper bag.

What attaches to a flat plate with no tapped "wholes"? Is this just a spacer? Am I really ordering 5mm plate$$$$$ or can I use 3/16"?  What material: aluminum, steel, unobtaineum?

Yep. I think it's unobtaineum.

Its 5 dicks thick, and 7 asses wide. Since the dimensions are arbitrary,  why not use length to boob ratios?

I have a few relatives I pretty much stopped talking to and have avoided church the past few years as well. Every topic has to be angrily politicized, and if you don't agree you're shouted at no matter how ludicrous their conspiracy is.

After my dad's memorial service, which was held two years after he passed because of Covid, a friend of his asked me what he really died from because my mother kept saying it was Covid. This person insisted didn't actually kill anyone and people were only saying that because of some government deal. How do you have reasonable conversations with someone like this?

W = .5, it's right there in the diagram.

I think in this case W=width which is actually thickness.

Yeah, that was my interpretation. Still couldn't be made because of (at least)

  1. the aforementioned lack of dimensioning of the holes in the vertical direction
  2. a hole diameter (or at least what size fastener is going through said holes, and whether it's a structural/tight hole or not)
  3. radius for the corners

And (as also mentioned) the material, though that might have been discussed separately.

You all are spelling "wholes" wrong.  wink

I left out the best part, perhaps- this isn't just a flat plate, it's got a curved portion that wasn't shown on EE's Paint artwork but detailed by way of a picture of a similar part, edited in Paint with dimensions added on.  I didn't show that because it's work-specific, but you get the point.

EE's notes:

"I have attached the Dimension of the plate,

  • For the wholes,

1st hole on top would be 2 cm from the Left Side

2nd hole would be 8 cm from the Left side.

For the hanger,

I have attached photos,

  • 10 cm by 10 cm L and H, w = 0.5 cm
  • Empty space under “U” = 5 cm
  • 6 cm L for the “U”

Attached photo for the hanger = Protection length would be 3 cm

It would be at the middle of the plate"

Perfectly clear, yes?

I used to get drawings like that from the fresh out of school green engineers or engineering students. I would ask them to explain what they wanted while I sketched it on a piece of paper. When I was done I'd show them and say, next time you want something, give me this, it'll make both our lives easier. They we're usually really good about it.

Lasered and formed parts come in, I grab em and take em to a welder that isn't busy and say "this goes together real easy, but let me grab you a drawing anyways.  BRB."

EE is question is pretty green, and yes, that's my plan.  Actually, he told me he needed a bracket, but needed the drawing in CAD, but didn't know any CAD, so I offered to whip him a drawing together in Inventor if he'd sketch me what he needed.

Now, apparently, I need to teach him how to sketch.  Perhaps I'll buy him a packet of graph paper to start with, and a ruler and mechanical pencil.
