A couple weeks ago I got the BMW legal and on the road again. Day two of driving it and the oil cooler popped off and started dragging on the ground. I got it back on more securely and realized that the difference between a $150 BMW part and a $40 failure-causing not-BMW part is a fraction of a mm of plastic production molding flashing. The cooler was on snugly but not perfectly and I almost lost the engine because of it. I used a box cutter to whittle down the excess and put it back together and drove it home. Success!
Happy at my prowess, I was puttin the top back up and the main interior trim piece broke in half and fell down. Why? Because berkeley P3PPY, that's why.
Some interior screws had taken to flight so I traced down similar screws in Lowe's that night and got it going again.
I finally bit the bullet and bought a genuine BMW $100 radiator hose and $150 expansion tank bracket since that's where my two remaining leaks or threats of leaks were coming from. I put it together and all is well.
but this is the rant thread, right?
Taking my middle child for a drive on Sunday we heard a little scraping sound which was reminiscent of the oil cooler assembly that was dragging the other day. With dread in my heart I got out and it's the fog light connector dragging. Relieved, but still with no confidence in the car, we drove on. We had a great evening at the beach, my car self-destruct fears notwithstanding.
Yesterday it was another child's turn to spend the day with daddy. AC went out recently and it was super hot and the drive was demotivating, but we were sitting side by side for the drive and we had fun at the park together.
After we got home I looked out and saw yet another small puddle under the front of the car.
I'm just done. I'm done with noises and worries and things breaking one after another. The juice is officially not worth the squeeze.
Same with the Saab. Too many noises, too many rattles, too much failure.
I don't have the time or motivation to fix things on my own and shop repair costs being what they are, it's time to get a boring appliance. So long, fun car activities, I don't have the bandwidth to handle the lows these days.
Waiting for a car transporter driver who's lost. Overshot our interstate exit by 20 miles, apparently because Google told him to. And that isn't even the hard part about getting here.
What semi driver even puts the truck in gear without double checking the destination, and the route?

The HVAC blower fan went out in my Mazda CX-3 recently...$45 for a good quality replacement from Rock Auto and 27 minutes all up to do the R&R job.
Ultimately, it's just a little FWD, automatic $hitbox but man is it ever easy to live with.
For the better part of 2 weeks, I've been battling hemorrhoids (asteroids?) I can handle a E36 M3load of paid. But not this. Not anymore.
It's time to see a gastroenterologist. My family doctor checked me out, but I don't expect them to be experts on everything.
It hurts bad enough that I'd rather have kidney stones again.

Tucks berkeleying WORK man. Only thing I found that does for me.
What's your address I'll ship you some from Amazon! Because I know you're berkeleying pain!

Wifey had a thing last winter and I was the one to be part of a process with some special prescription medication.
Remember when I was 24 years old and easily threw down those "for better or worse" wedding vows? No problem, I'm here for whatever....!!!!
At age 61 she and I found out about the true love for each other.......

Tucks and creams ain't fixing this. I'm basically growing a human ear inside my ass. But I appreciate the offer.

I feel you. I am in the middle of a vehicle policy change over myself. A leaking radiator has pushed me to the brink. Current truck is very likely on the way out.

That's many of them now. Lots of wheelholders that just stare into their GPS.
I started feeling crappy last night at work. Body aches and fatigue. I thought it may be caused by being tired and dehydrated. I was working a 10hr shift to get enough hours so I could take this coming Friday off and make it a 4 day weekend.
But I woke up this morning feeling like death warmed over. Body aches, fatigue, chills and a nasty dry cough. I had to call out of work and use LWOP since I spent what little PTO I had being sick last week. That time was caused by side effects of the hydrocodone.
I'm never sick so this has been very frustrating, especially now that it's starting to affect my paycheck.
I'm still awaiting for my ER claim to be processed. It was out of network as I was visiting my folks on the other side of the country. I'm sure it will be $5-8k for the hour and a half I spent in the ER.
Why is living so damned expensive? I'm not even having a good time.

Too true... I do have to partially retract my rant... his dispatcher gave him a zip code that was 1 digit off, and that town was where he was headed. He still should have easily figured out that our address didn't exist in that town before setting off.
A guy in a white civic SI on my commute home turned right from the left turn lane then ran two red lights. He didn't just drive through when it was barely red, he came to a stop in the left turn lane, then drove straight through the light. He didn't even get anywhere, I was right behind him the whole time, despite following the law. Where's a cop when you need one

Saw a thing recently that said:
"Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular"
I feel this and think SaxyHero should put it on a t shirt
Toyman! said:OK world, that's enough. It's only Tuesday. How about some good news for the rest of the week.
The hits just keep coming.
Today I have one field employee who made it to work. 3 of them have tested positive for COVID, the rest are out dealing with family issues. The guy that made it in is primarily a helper, not a tech. He will get a crash course in learning how to tech today. I am throwing him to the wolves. Of the 15 stops that were planned for today, we will be lucky to get 5 done. We won't be making payroll.
I get to spend the morning contacting customers and explaining why we are so far behind schedule and falling farther behind every minute.
It's not going to be a fun day.
It's week 2 of back to school so you know what that means. Yep. We're all sick already. Queso Kid 1 is on day 3 of a stomach bug that seems to be getting worse. The other two have colds. Last night I started feeling the sore throat coming on and today I have about 20% less energy than yesterday. Yay! I love being sick for 9 months out of the year!!!
Worst part is my parents are coming into town this weekend and all I hear from them is "ever time we come up there we get sick." Then don't come. Stay away from my home if you don't want to be around germs. Just avoid seeing your grandkids and be alone to avoid the risk of a runny nose.
In reply to Scotty Con Queso :
Ugh, it's our first day back. I'm really hoping the walking bioweapon facility known as my youngest can hold off on sharing until at least next week. Just had my last chemo Monday so my immune system is all kinda berkeleyed right now, but I made it through the whole summer with little more than a runny nose.
In reply to Duke :
Kidney stones this size suck, because there's berkeley-all they can do about them except treat the pain.
On the bright side- one down, one to go...
In 3 years traveling the same roads I've never hit anything. I knew it was only a matter of time because the amount of wildlife I see on the way to work is ludicrous.
Two weeks ago my front bumper took a hard hit. This last week the RF corner took an even bigger hit. Bumper cracked or broken in 7 places, fog light and associated trim is destroyed, and it looks like the bumper is falling off.
In reply to Toyman! :
Yeah, the latest hit single from COVID seems to be making the charts right now. One of my bosses is down with "something" which I am mostly certain is COVID even though he won't test for it.

I told them I'd pay for the test if they would take it hoping to form a fire break.
Nice thought but didn't work. They all three came down with it within 12 hours of each other. It's a pretty small office and crews shuffle depending on what they are doing that day. The rest of us will probably get it now.
Which sucks. I was headed out Thursday to be visiting family for a long weekend. That's not going to happen now. My 85-year-old parents don't need to deal with another round of this crap if they don't have to.
