Everyone does that, once. Only once.
I didn't, only because the first time I encountered it was an ABS diag after a shop three states away replaced the wheel bearings. I had the rare opportunity to learn from someone else's mistake.
Now I always check them with a paperclip to see which side is magnetic before installing.
To the other shop's credit they did install ONE correctly.

I'm kind of torn on if that makes it better or worse.

I prefer not to think about it too hard and just look at the bright side, our new customer only had to pay to have one wheel bearing replaced.
Expect the bearing to be destroyed on removal, unless the hub is worn out it will have a tighter hold on the outboard inner race than whatever holds the race into the bearing assembly and the seal will be destroyed.
With search having become so crap, can we move away from clickbait titles? (EDIT: I mean "we" as in humanity circa 2025; it's too prevalent to be calling anyone out to any great extent.)
Seems like the ability to discern whether there's actual pertinent content at a glance is becoming more important relative to the assumption you can get eyeballs on something by twanging idle curiosity.
A couple of decades of structuring and styling to appeal to Google now leaves us with stuff optimized for a search that no longer works, because everything's just attempting the same games to try to trick the search engine into thinking it's the best hit.

Today I found out the hard way that some cars have the tone ring for the ABS built into the wheel bearing, and if you install it with the wrong side facing out, it won't align with the sensor.
i guess I get to redo the wheel bearing
Oof. Timely. I just did a bearing on the boss's Fit, only because pressing the hub out is the only way to replace a front wheel stud. His ABS light is on even after replacing the sensor. I'm hoping it just wants a reset via the OBDII connector. Otherwise I'm doing it again. Pretty annoying, especially considering I was aware of the presence of the reluctor when I put it together.
An unrelated rant of my own making: last Friday I spotted this at lunch:

I did the mature thing and decided I didn't need another roll cab, even if it was a bargain. I was wrong. The Snap-On had already found a new home when I went back after work. The Craftsman was there, so I did the right thing and decided I didn't need it, either. And now I get to kick myself twice.

Coincidentally mine is on a Fit too. Must be something going round

I bet most people learn this on a Honda.
To my knowledge, Honda were one of the first to go to the magnetic seal. Also, they are way more likely to be able to replace just the bearing, not a hub assembly.
My learning experience was a BMW 3-series. Probably an E46 but maybe an E90.
My learning was on an SX4. The previous owner used a bearing from the river store and the cheap bearing had the wrong number of counts.
Week 2 of broken rib is turning out to be just as painfully awful as week 1.
This morning my HR representative took me to her office to inform me that "the company has eliminated your position. Someone will Ford Econobox you to your desk so you can pack up your things and be Ford Econoboxed out the door."
Why is this a minor rant, you ask? You just lost your job.
Well, I'm getting a few weeks severance pay, I have no debt at all (including the house), and a fully funded emergency fund in savings that can support my family for another six months. We'll be ok. My goal is to start my new job (TBD) before my wife gives birth to our second child. So approximately July 13.
Ugh. Not how I wanted my Monday to go.

It's been 20 years and you come crawling out of the woodwork for money? From me? Bitch, I make maybe $600/month, give me some berkeleying money.
Few things irritate me more than seeing someone write/type "should of" instead of "should've". If you spend half a second thinking about the word "of" in that context, you can surely realize it's wrong to use?

Some people do not think about what words mean, they only think of what sounds are associated with things.

Ugh, that's tough. Sorry to hear about that. Being prepared will help that to suck a lot less, that's for sure. Good luck with the search. It's tough out here right now, but don't let it get you down. Find something to do in the meantime while you're searching -- it will help to have goals set and accomplished.
In reply to ShawneeCreek :
That sucks, sorry to hear that. Sounds like you have a good plan though- hopefully you'll find something even better!

Thanks. I've plenty of house projects to keep me busy, especially if we want to prepare the house for sale to move. But I'm looking forward to working on the camper truck again in the free time between job hunting.

I berkeleyin hate performative faith, especially the narcissistic version of it.
Because your life is going well does not mean that God is good. Because you found an artery that was 90% blocked and got it taken care of in time does not mean God is good. It means you have good insurance (especially because you went and got a second opinion from a different doctor.)
Also, in the past 8 months the shop has had two absolutely beloved members of the family/workforce die, one of them on the shop floor in front of everyone. And you, as the HMFIC did not give a day off in mourning for either of them.
But we should care that you are healthy? You denied three raises that I know of for nonsense reasons. You denied promotions we desperately need. You take half the month off on the regular and won't let one of the office workers work remotely for the same time so they can be with their sick mother.
But God is good, because your life is good.
I would hope you actually learn what faith is, but you are too wrapped up in yourself to do so.

I wonder how much of a role text to speech plays?

Sorry man. That sucks. I've been RIF'd twice and it's a horrible feeling. I'm glad you have your E36 M3 in order, that will help to make it less stressful.
