I didn't E36 M3-whip a fully built 9 speed Jaguar transmission across the shop like I wanted to last night. I get to keep my job and also not have to replace my spine.

Apparently I have no idea how to operate a coolant system pressure tester. And coolant must still be pooled somewhere from the leak. THEREFORE: Big job I sent out to have done was not still leaking after all, nor are the water pump or any hoses!

WOOHOO!

Decided to stop at the grocery store on the way home from work.  Everything I wanted was on sale.  A pleasant surprise.

My wife jokes about this but it seems to be true. She makes the list, I go to the store and magically everything is on sale (or I found it for a better price somehow). She goes? Nope, full price for everything and no deal to be found. I'm patient though and will stalk my prey for multiple grocery trips then pounce when I find weakness. That's why I buy bread 10 loaves at a time and they all have "MANAGER'S SPECIAL" stickers on them.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who keeps this thread going. 2025 has been an unending buffet of E36 M3 sandwiches so far, so hearing that other people are having good things happen helps morale.

The flyers come out Thursday. I peruse them, see what's on sale, and that's what we base our menu on for the next week or two. If there are really good deals on something we buy in quantity. I normally go Friday, then again the following Wednesday if it's something we want more of (like avocados when they're cheap) and will watch over the week to see if they run out of a sale item, then get a rain check. If it's an exceptional deal they often do run out, and the rain check is usually good for a qty of 4, and 30 days.

I hear people griping about the cost of food, and how expensive it is to eat well, but we eat very well, and very inexpensively.

I scored a free running riding mowing John Deere lawn mower off of Facebook this week. It was listed for parts for free three blocks from my house and the lady's husband said he could never get it to run. 30 seconds with a hammered to unstick the needle and seat a little bit of ether and it fired right up and mowed my grass. I needed that win this week

Heck yeah, good job man!

I was on a streak for a while picking up dead 4-stroke lawn equipment that had been deemed "dead" by non-handy owners. Most of the time I just needed to clean the carb, clean the spark plug, and give it fresh gas. I need to put my ears out again and see what I can find again. I even toyed with picking/flipping mowers for beer money.

Wednesday evening, I like to scour the meat cooler for stuff with a "Cook it tonight" sticker.

Freshco had whole pork loins at $2.25 a pound last week.  That's cheap pork chops, there.

Ha! No frills had pork shoulder for a buck a pound a few weeks ago. We eat a lot of pork in this house, partly because it's cheap, partly because we really like it, and partly because we cook a lot of European and Mexican food.

We did too. We no longer watch NHL hockey, a rant for another day, so it was nice to watch some hockey midseason.

This started as a minor rant.

It became a major rant.

After several hours, we are now firmly in the win column. Goodbye, Transite, and hello PVC.

I win. And I am on my way to a much-needed shower and multiple beers. We can backfill later.

In reply to Streetwiseguy :

It's not as deep as I'd like, that's for sure. Our street is on a lower plane than the one behind us and they share the city sewer line. Consequently, our backyard slopes sharply upward as it goes away from the house, and our pipe is apparently 13 feet below grade at the top of the hill. If we have to replace that part, it's going to get very expensive.

I have some time off and I'm finally getting around to cleaning out the basement.

They won't trench 13 feet.  They either directionally bore it or - more likely - just shove a plastic liner down the existing pipe.

We had a plumber out Friday morning to run a camera down the pipe and assess the situation, and he said the same thing. If I understood correctly, he described a method of spraying in some kind of liquid plastic liner that gets cured with UV light. I just hope the reset of the system has enough structural integrity to allow that. The guy was having a hard time even determining what he was looking at so they're coming back again for a better look.

I'm really not in the mood for a HELOC right now.

A couple weeks ago I realized I didn't put a battery tender on the RS6 or SS. Today I drove out to the warehouse and started them both. Apparently sitting for 3 months is not an issue. Man I can't wait for winter to end.

Everybody has cell phones, nobody seems to trust anybody anymore, and most of us that were once inclined probably no longer bother.

Driving home last night I saw a car on a 45 degree angle off to the side in a long heavy snow drift. I made it through,  and for some reason stopped on the other side and walked back to see if everything was OK. She was maybe 18 and had no idea what to do. She hadn't called anybody yet, let me give it a go and I got it out in under a minute, it wasn't bad.  I told her how to get through deep drifts, how to get a car unstuck, then watched her make it to the other side. She was so happy. I was so happy to see her happy. I hope she remembers what I told her

As a father of teen girls, thank you, sir. I have stopped and helped people for as long as I've been driving, and been thanked for not being a serial killer. (I replied "same to you"). I've also needed help a few times. But I have also been guilty of assuming they have help on the way. It's a weird feeling.
