I'm thinking about making the trek down to the Mitty and sleeping in my van...
- Does the VIP ticket allow me to camp in the infield?
- Are there concessions enough to feed me 3 squares a day while I'm there?
- Is there a public shower?
OR, should I just abuse the Visa card and stay at the Hampton on the CM block rate?
Yes, Yes and Yes.
You should be able to park and camp in your Van. I've done it in my Volvo Wagon before
(Que Karl) The concession stands should keep you plenty fed for the 3 days. There is a concession stand in the old paddock that serves everything, but I think they open at noon. If not, the grocery store is about 5 miles out.
Turn 3 has showers. They are BONE COLD, but they are showers. The old paddock also has showers, but they are reserved for race drivers. You can try and sneak in for a warm shower...
A VIP ticket also gets you touring laps & parking near the Base Camp (aka the Classic Motorsports party tent). Numbers are limited, though.

Bring snacks. Karl and Marie are whipping up some DELICIOUS tacos, but that 3am Waffle House urge can't be quenched without a 10-15 minute drunk drive. I have yet to find a good cup of coffee at the track. A small grill ain't a bad idea...especially if someone else brings it.
PS: I would camp, rather than hotel it, because:
-
I want to shut down the party, and stumbling to a tent is way smarter than trying to drive/hitch to a hotel.
-
I'm a cheap c*nt
-
Waking up to the sound of some vintage Can-Am E36 M3 or whatever is rad.
Poop,
I'll agree on 2 and 3. I'm too old for 1 and the only thing I'd be looking for at 3:00 AM would be a urinal.

Quoted for what may actually be the truest thing ever said on the interwebs about anything. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
Mongo will be present, bow down ye mere mortals.
Coffee will be present also ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)
Food won't be a problem, as Sonny's BBQ and Karl and Marie's awesome Jarritto Burritto stand will be there. There will also be ice cream, lemonade, and other good stuff to be had. Breakfast wise, the HSR paddock area has a restaurant / stand that I believe serves breakfast food if you are willing to make the hike down the hill.
Sleeping in your van shouldn't be a problem, but I'd be careful of making a "compound" or a campsite. Keep in mind Road Atlanta actually sells camping passes, so they may get bent out of shape if you don't have a camping pass but are setting up a campsite. Of course you could always contact R/A, get a camping pass and sleep with a clean conscience. http://www.roadatlanta.com/
That said, this year's Mitty should be a busy one, so get there as early as you can!
One thing I hate about not living in ATL anymore is the Mitty.. use to be 20 minutes away
I forgot about the tent camping permits. I usually work F&C when I go to RAtl, workers camp free. Thanks for the reminder, Joe. I'll pick it up with my tix.
Is there a designated camping area, or do you just need a camping ticket and set up wherever?
Never mind....I looked up the track map. Where will the Classic Motorsports tent be ?

Enter the track, go up the hill, turn left to go over the T11 bridge. Keep going straight, eventually the road will detoured around the vendors' row. There should be parking there. CM's usually in the middle of vendors' row, on the side closest to the front straight. You won't miss it! ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
