Was going to revive the old thread from last year, but can't find it.
Cool thing the league is doing for these quarantine days..full game replays with commentary, just like you'd have turned on that track on a DVD.
They did our (the Atlanta 'our') Championship early on, but I like this one better. The first MLS game that was ever played. April 6, 1996. San Jose Clash (Earthquakes) 1 - 0 DC United. Commentary MC'd by David Gass (MLS Media employee), Eric Wynalda & Jeff Agoos (both US Nat'l team players that came home from Europe to support the new league), and Bill Hamid (current keeper for DC).
I love hearing Hamid's reaction to the tackles. "That would be a yellow today!!"
Funny thing, I actually remember watching this game, and being so stoked that we were playing 'big league' soccer in the US again (I was a teenager when the NASL was at its peak). I was sitting in my BMW E36ty apartment over on Powers Ferry Road, and expecting that Atlanta would get a franchise in the next year or two.. :D
There's gotta be soccer fans around here..so many of y'all are young enough to have played it.

Oh, I thought this was a real estate thread. You mean the other MLS.
There are definitely some fans here.
In reply to friedgreencorrado :
great link. Thanks!
Edit: I will never understand why they geo-lock these games but apparently they do
At age 19 I attended the USA-Italy game in the 1990 World Cup, in Rome... So count me among the GRM soccer nut subset. That game was electric!
Arthur Blank's contributions to MLS in Atlanta are tremendous... even if the league is in collusion with US Soccer federation to berkeley over every other soccer organization for the benefit of a bunch of NFL billionaires.

Yeah, I know. But the game in the US isn't like it is in the other 96% of the world. Not every small town here has a small club that dreams of being promoted to a 'higher division' one day. I really think this league 'splits the difference' between how sports in general is played in the US, and how pro soccer fits into that economic model. USL, NISA, and the 'new' NASL are places for an MLS club to look for talent, but aren't strong enough to seriously consider promotion/relegation in this country. Especially since the businessmen who've been suckered into throwing so much money into the 'first division' here will *never* accept being kicked down below the top.
I think the original salary cap rules kept MLS from folding like the original NASL did, but I like the Designated Player (aka, the David Beckham rule) stuff. IMO, my own club has used it better than anyone else, since we originally used it to pick up young South American players that many Euro leagues had missed, instead of throwing money at older players like the Galaxy (Ibra) and DC (Rooney).
I am a massive soccer fan but to be honest I don't really follow the MLS.
The whole lack of promotion/ relegation just means I have no interest in it.
getting into it.. really like going to see the Loons here in MN... it's a cool stadium and environment.

Even if they could, they wouldn't cause you have to protect the billionaries investments.

Yeah, it would! I think I've discovered that being a fan of the game in the US means saying, "Maybe someday.." a lot.
What about a Masters of Library Science?

And somehow in America, land of risk and opportunity and capitalism.. this nonsense is defended. Almost universally. SMDH.
