Can't blame them. Overloading yourself with caffeine, taurine, ginseng, and tons off vitaminB can't be that healthy. Then again, neither can most western medicine.

If you had any idea what was in the food you ate every day, you probably wouldn't eat it.

I'm a Red Bull guy as well, but only when I get it for free if they're handing it out at some event. I think I can count the times I've actually bought it on one hand. For me, an "energy drink" is Gatorade, which I buy by the case at Sam's Club... Otherwise, I have my requisite 2 cups of coffee in the morning and occasionally some Earl Grey tea at work and coffee to keep me awake for my drive home at 11pm.

I sometimes get one of those Rockstar Lemonade things and by sometimes I mean around 1 week. I don't drink coffee. I have one of these most mornings.

... why don't we go look up how much caffeine is in some of these drinks...

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/caffeine/AN01211

Most energy drinks (Monster included) have less caffeine per ounce than coffee, and we're not talking about how coffee kills people. I understand too much caffeine is bad for you, but lets at least be consistent with what we attack.

And don't go saying how monster comes in larger cans so its worse overall, because you can buy 20-24oz. cup of coffee just about everywhere now.

Very true, but do you think kids drinking high caffeine drinks should be addressed? Then again I think illicit drugs are higher on the list.

I keep doing this just for contrast:

Wife and I (phones):

$57/mo with taxes included

Kids for entire family (sugar water):

Do you count juice? The kids get a cup of juice every day, so we probably spend like $6 on juice every month. Other than that it's milk, tea or water.

Subject to correction by a scientist, caffeine doesn't produce any energy. It just chemically stimulates the central nervous system. Yes, it is an addictive drug, two hallmarks of addiction being withdrawal symptoms when you try to quit and increased tolerance with use, requiring more of the substance to get the effect. Most comon withdrawal symptom is headache.

I use RedBull occasionally at the track as a performance enhancing device. If there's a really long time between qualifying and the qualifying race on a Saturday I can fall asleep on the grid between the 5 minute and 1 minute boards.

A RedBull seems to help.

I actually bet it's because most Rockstar drinks are terrible. Avoid the coconut water one like the plague.

I've had the same flip phone for 6 or 7 years now, I don't really pay much of anything on the bill.

And I just got 3 cases of 24 random company energy drinks for 4.99 each. I got 72 cans of caffeine for the price of a 10 pack of monster. berkeley YEA, now I can phase through things with my twitchy molecules!

I can drink the Rehab Monsters all day without getting jittery for some reason. Those things are actually refreshing somehow. Added bonus, they taste better than pretty much all of the energy drinks I've ever tried, even the green tea one.

This is what happens when corporations berkeley with laws of nature in order to turn a fast buck. Coffee tastes like crap to kids. Kids don't drink coffee, therefore kids don't get caffeine (which obviously, they shouldn't).

Enter the corporation, where the thought process goes something like this: "Hey, we can make money if we sell drugs to kids, let's do it!" Energy drinks are born, people get addicted, people die.

Nothing new here.

I loved coffee as a kid. Even without the ton of sugar and E36 M3 that most people put in it.

Which makes me laugh like an idiot when people I know give me stuff about drinking a can of whatever, when they're on their third 24 oz cup of diabetes because they can't drink coffee without a pound of sugar, flavored creamer and a bottle of caramel sauce and whipped cream on top.

Same here. I drank a Red Bull once, it gave me a buzz like you wouldn't believe and I haven't drank another one (or any other brand) since then.

I'm glad my kid LOVES milk and lemonade. She will drink maybe half of one of those energy drinks maybe every six weeks or so.

I have made the transition from energy drinks to coffee now. More hardcore coffee now than ever. Every morning, I get a large Starbucks dark coffee with 2 shots of expresso in it. .

Energy drinks are costing me too much. I was up to 3 a day at $2.50 a piece. Now, I only spend $3.00 a day on a coffee that gives me the same amount of energy as 3 Monsters!
