AR-15/P-90 hybrid

Seriously??? $700(not including a mag) to use a hard to find, exspensive, less powerfull cartridge. As much as I find the P-90 the sexiest gun ever(SG-1 fanboi here)... Wow /rant

IF the mag is interchangable with the P(S)-90 then that would be nice as civilians can only get 10&30rd PS-90 clips, and they tend to cost more

It's been awhile since I hung with the gun crowd, but IIRC-they're a lot like us car folks. There's the serious ones, and then there's the poseurs. And the suppliers can make a lot more money from the poseurs than they can from the "real" folks (have you ever seen the prices on some of those ugly-arsed body kits?).

It sure is pretty, but I'll bet the 25-yr old AK carried by the average Taliban goon has more stopping power.

I never understood the whole "militarized" look. When every newscaster thinks any rifle is an "assault weapon" these kits don't help. Is it just the looks, or do people really need a folding stock, Starlight scope and a laser pointer on an AR-15? I don't need all that to plug a deer. Yet I lust after $900+ Leupold LPS scopes. Go figure.

Its cool...

Takes p-90 mags

Spits cases out the mag well!

Useless/just for fun. Makes mouse gun mousier.

Edit- $700 is not bad for any chamber swap on a AR platform. Check out the .50 BMG swaps! cool stuff.

In reply to BobOfTheFuture:

Yeah the uppers are the expensive parts, the lowers are way cheaper. It would make a good varmint rifle since you dont have a huge mag to get in the way and lots of rounds and depending on the ballistics. Or just for plinking, still holding that much ammo gets heavy. I take it the upper uses blow back to cycle the action because they got rid of the gas tube?

except when used in conjunction with "bacon"...then it's alright, I think. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/tactical-bacon/7519/page1/

I thought this thread was gonna be about this idiotic piece of "tacticool" equipment.

I figured it was like a gag gift or something, until an idiot I work with claimed it was awesome and that, "You obviously have never been in a hand-to-hand combat situation."

Even now, the idoicy staggers me...so I'll just use the nonexistent  smiley.

I'm not a big 5.7 fan. It was developed to puncture bullet "proof" vests. Even the non AP rounds will do a number on vests, from what I read. I think that for a cop to carry a weapon that will defeat his body armor, knowing that most police shot are shot with their own guns (hey, save a cop's life: ban cops' guns), is just about Darwin Award material.

I also understand that the 5.7 is about like a 22 Hornet. Makes a good little varmit gun, then, but that's about it.

That knife attachment cracks me up too.

That is awesome. You just have to be very careful not to shoot yourself in the face when peeling oranges or cleaning the dirt from under your fingernails.

Does it use a holster or a sheath?

This has never been more appropriate.

And when I see the handgun bayonet, I can't help but think of it being a Homer Simpson invention. Like his automatic hammer. Which now exists... Meta.

I have never understood the point in this round. Yes i understand that it is designed for penetrating body armor, but it only has slightly better ballistics than a 22mag. For the bullet to hold together at that speed you need to make it fairly tough so it wont expand very much. So you are talking about hitting someone with a bullet around 32 gr. at about 1900fps that's going to detonate on impact like a varmint round or punch a very small hole through you and keep going, neither of which is ideal. Yes you can kill someone with this round and no i don't want to be shot with it but i think you have a lot better options if you wanted to get a pistol or SMG.

The 5.7 round is an interesting idea for a pistol, because pistols are typically pretty low on penetrating power. The small, fast 5.7x28 cartridge solves that deficiency. However, there's not a whole lot that a standard AR 5.56mm round won't penetrate, so what's the point?

Appleseed: telescoping stocks are great because not everyone has arms the same length. Altering length-of-pull is very handy. Also, various optics require different eye reliefs, so telestocks help there, too.

Appleseed, I agree with you..but OTOH, I've always supported the gun guys with this kind of stuff. I figure it's not much of a step for the fun-haters to go from "you don't need that to hunt" to "you don't need 300hp to get to work".

And yes, you just heard a "gawdless lib'rul" make a slippery slope argument.

Oh, I agree that there is no need to ban any of it. It's just that I don't get it. Maybe a little of the "I couldn't be a Marine, so I'll buy a gun that looks military instead." I don't get into trap guns, but that doesn't mean they're less worthy than my 10/22.

Kind of like the kid with a big ol fart can on his Honda. I don't get that, either, but at least he's into cars (somewhat) and not playing X Box.
