I just saw this a few minutes ago: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11091626/hall-famer-tony-gwynn-san-diego-padres-died

Tony Gwynn was one player I enjoyed watching growing up. He played his ass off every game. One of the best hitters ever to play imho.

Sad, one of my favorites ever. I wonder what happened, I dont think he wouldve signed an extension if his fight wasnt going well.

Tony was awesome--had the highest batting average of any player whose career began after WW2. He played the game smart, and with respect.

I was at last night's Dodger game and they singled out a guy in a Gwynn jersey on the jumbotron. Got a huge round of applause. RIP, Tony.

A talented guy, who enjoyed the game, the fans and his town.

I love watching "small ball". Ichiro is one of those Gwynn type hitters. Some power, but hits anywhere, and is halfway to first before the ball is off his bat. Always remember kids- four singles counts the same as a home run!
