... dismantling the door panel, so I could attempt to un-dent it. I didn't think to take a picture, until she had just about got it back together.
The dent is more like a wrinkle now, but at least the window can go down.

can't tell how young she is in that pic (She looks young) but if she can take cars apart and put them back together.. you better keep an eye on her!
Despite her parents objections, I taught my neice how to change a tire; how to drive manual and how to change the oil. She watched me build several race cars from the rolling stool. I dont expect her to be a mechanic or really do any of the above mentioned work on regular basis but she is better prepared for the world.
I couldnt imagine turning her loose on a date where she couldnt drive any car back home if she needed to.
I stuck a welder in my daughter's hands yesterday. She enjoyed it immensely. Needs practice but the desire to learn is there.
The plasma cutter scares her though.
I don't see how people can drive and not know at minimum how to change a Tire... I was doing that by myself by 12 y/o on our suburban... did it a few times before that with dad right with me... first time I put the acorn nuts on backwards... good teaching moment... I think I was 13 the first time we pulled the trans from that thing (stupid 700r4 4wd)
er anyway looking forward to teaching my kiddos some of those basics :)... as it stands they like hanging out in the garage with me... try to use them as teachable moments... :)
simple Donalson.. for the past 20 years or so.. people have stayed in their hermetically sealed homes only to get into their hermetically sealed cars to go to their hermetically sealed places of employment.. hard to get any real world experience at doing things if you only ever see the real world through the glass that is the bubble that surrounds your life
I have a niece who grew up in New Jersey and went to school in Massachusetts. When she got there, someone needed to teach her how to put gas in her car.

Get her used to using an angle grinder and she will fear nothing. Except angle grinders.

I'm STILL not cool with most air/power tools. I think the extent of my comfort zone is an impact gun. Grinders/cutoff wheels make me pee myself.
I knew hearing protection was mandatory for using the grinder, but I had no idea some people had to use a Depends as well.

it depends on what you are using the angle grinder for

Gear up and get used to them, bro. They make them "cut em up" jobs a breeze as well as welding.
You just can't weld a rusty shaft.

I don't weld either.
I'm ok with a sawzall, luckily.

Yep, and i have a grinder and cutoff wheel... but they're last resort types of things for me.
