Funny to see this today as the family just had out 6 month check-ups today. Took us all in at once too, me, the bitch, and our 2 pups. All of us checked out good too.

Harbor freight sells dental picks........that is what I use to remove stubborn calculus. Follow up with flossing, brush your teeth, then rinse with Listorine. You should have no problems.

My old dentist was amazing - met us in the office at 8pm on a Saturday night after I busted my front teeth out on a dirt bike, did great work fixing them, etc. Never did the hard sell. Only drawback was he had huge hands. I used to look at him every now and then and ask "Is it safe?" in a heavy German accent, and he would laugh.
Then he retired and his sons took over the business. I assume they are trying to raise cash to buy him out because they do put on a little hard sell. It used to bother my wife, but not me. It's like a car salesman - he needs my cash A LOT more than I need his car. I'm in the position of power and it's easy to say NO if I think a procedure is unnecessary or overkill. After a year or two they realized I wasn't going to be buffaloed and they quit trying to upsell me.
They are technically almost as good as their father was - some better than others, of course, and actually my favorite is an associate they hired. I get all my work done by him now since he is more like the old man used to be.
Makes me almost feel bad, I have been postponing a dental appointment for 2-3 months as I cant get a free day to do it (because of school and finishing up to graduate)
My dentist dosent pull stuff like that though. They seem pretty chill about dealing with appointments.
Then again, my old doctor (not dentist, doctor) in Ohio... Was rather sick (read sick as a dog), I was attending OSU at the time and we were closing in on finals. I wanted to get an appointment to see if there was anything he could give me. "Sorry, we are booked, we can fit you in in 6 months" To say that I was less than amused was an understatement. I had been with this doctor for 5-6 years. Changed doctors that day and wrote a nice F-U letter to the old doctor.
My dentist was a great guy. We always had interesting conversations. He would tell me about his (grown) children, his running marathons, his painting. I would go "mmmm, errrrrrr, MMMM, hhhhmmmmm". He retired a couple years ago. A perky young lady dentist took his place at his partner's practice. I think I'll keep going. I don't mind going every 6 months. Insurance pays 100% on checkups.
As a customer, you may not always be right, but you have a right to your opinion expressed on Google reviews, Yelp, or Angieslist. Where do you think you will find your next dentist? Anyone who runs a business needs to be aware of how quickly bad news spreads on the internet. Whether it's "fair" or not doesn't matter; it's the reality of the modern word of mouth.
That being said, I have gone to the same dentist's office since I was 8. His son and another woman now head the operation, but I don't hesitate to travel sixty miles to make the twice-yearly visit.
