Sorry to hear about the loan hassles. FWIW, I bought my car using a new service from PNC. Long story short, we got a blank check that we could fill out for as little at $7K and as much as $15K with the fixed APR on a sliding scale based upon how much we used. (The more you spend, the lower the APR) It was super convenient and the dealer couldn't get within 4 points of our rate on their best day.

Pics or your magazine sucks.

Is this a magazine project car?

No pics yet---I'll have some tomorrow.

Most of the cars that I own wind up somewhere in the magazine--but this isn't a project car. More of a driver that will get occasional fixes/updates/etc. In short.."Notes From the Garage" material.

In other news, the charge for my flight ticket seems to have disappeared from my transaction record for my card.

Sooo... am i flying for free? Or have they cancelled and just not notified me?

Out in the panhandle of Texas. Ran into that a few years ago when we went to Darrouzett, TX for a wedding.

Yeah i'm about to, i'm just musing out loud at the moment. With the kind of ordeal this has been, it would be my luck.

I know that car. Have fun, most people who come to San Diego never leave.

also its Comic Con right now if that's your bag. If you need any tools on site I am around if you email me.

E46 stick wagons are alright, but did you consider an X3?

I haven't seen 92/93 out here in the West (NV or CA), I don't think you can get more than 91 around here.

+1 on the tool kit, I'd drop by a Napazone or a HF and get a basic toolkit. And definitely some coolant, it gets a little warm out here in the desert (and I shudder to think what sort of temperatures you get down in LV).

BTW, if I were to pick up a car in SoCal and drive it back east via CO, I'd spend the extra time going up Hwy 1 to the Bay Area. Trust me, it's worth it, especially in a sports car.

Oh really? Seems quite a few people know apparently.

Sooo... is it fast?

Appointment made at FM for dyno time Friday morning!

Gotta call the bank about that charge mysteriously disappearing, booking company says there are no problems on their end, so it's probably my bank being dumb.

Yeah, i thought about it, and i'll grab a small toolkit. I carry a 155 piece Craftsman set in the MX6 at all times, and it's saved my ass a few times, that's for sure.

I need to see how much time going up highway 1 is going to add on to the trip, but i'd like to do that. I was planning on hitting the Mulholland if i didn't go up 1.

The only downside is that i need to be in Grand Junction by Friday morning, and i'd like to get some sleep before i head up to FM, since i'll be getting up to go to the airport in..... 12.5 hours.

Think my GPS is here, though, had a note on my door that there were two packages down at the office for me. All KINDS of fun toys!

Oh, and get some kind of a cloth to clean the windshield. There's nothing worse than having a film on the windshield at night and no way to fix it.

You'd pretty much have to budget a day for that trip. Google Maps suggests it's going to be a 26h trip if you do SD - Carmel - Tonopah (that would be through Yosemite) - Grand Junction.

It'd be a fairly spectacular "best of the West" (or at least best of CA) trip.

Well, the reason i bought this car is for an epic trip across the US with heavy emphasis on the western half in a year or two anyways, so i'll catch it then.

The only gas stations I know of with octane higher than 91 in CA are the few-and-far-between stations selling 100 at $8+/gallon. I'm not sure how far east you have to go to get 92/93, but I've never seen anything better than 91 in NV, AZ, UT, or CO on my trips between the Bay Area and Grand Junction.

I found that the inside can get really dirty too. It reminds me of when I used to let people smoke in my car and there would be thin film on the inside of all the glass. Now no one smokes in my miata, but now about every month, or less if it sits outside for a weekend or more, I need to clean the inside of the glass. Really hard to see through at dusk/dawn or at night with low ambient light levels and intense headlights.

Well, i have a bunch of pictures that i'll have to mess with later.

But cliff notes:

1) Flight was uneventful, cool scenery, was neat landing in 68 degree weather when the heat index was already just about 100 degrees when i left Indy at 6am.

2) socal has good mexican food. I would live there just for that

3) SCREW the drive from Temecula to Las Vegas. Seriously. Screw it. I thought it'd be bright to attempt to do the entire trip last night with the top down. MISERABLE. I'm burnt. (And the A/C needs a recharge)

4) Car desperately needs a tune and some other miscellaneous work that didn't come out when working out the details before flying out. (Not blaming the seller, i didn't really ask that much) It doesn't idle for crap, spool is kindof weird, and one of the headlights is messed up and rattles like crazy. (Blew a bulb last night because of it at about.... 11pm going through some mountains on the Arizona/Utah border.)

5) I should have been a long haul trucker. I woke up at 3am EST yesterday, and ran straight through until i got to Grand Junction and checked into my hotel at 5am Mountain Time. Not sure what that works out to, but it's long.

So.... here shortly i'm heading to FM and hopefully those wizards can work their magic. This is a good car, but it needs some TLC.

Very nice! There is an E46t in town here that looks exactly like my sedan - same color, interior, sport package - but I don't know if it is a manual. If it is, I would consider violence in order to own the matched set. The violence would probably happen to me, though, if I brought home another car to my wife.
