Rough times. Chin up. Stiff upper lip and all that. Also hoping for the best.

Nothing new in the last 24 hours. I suspect his condition is going to remain where it is for a while. Sounds like he's stable... but stable on a respirator. Who knows if/how well his body will be able to re-knit a crushed sternum.

I'm doing a lot better today than yesterday. I got a lot out of my system yesterday, and it's mostly just a waiting game now. Fortunately, I'm busy enough to avoid getting too worked up over that.

Stable is good. Rest is badly needed. They will probably continue with the induced coma for a few days, or have you heard anything otherwise?

They experimented with taking him off of the drugs used to induce the coma, and his vitals were showing signs of distress, so they put him back under.

My dad actually got a lot of information from the ophthalmologist of all people (apparently he suffered sever damage to his right eye). Sounds like it's really not good, and it was suggested my dad fly out immediately. The ophthalmologist read him my grandfather's chart and suggested there was a strong chance my grandfather would not make it through, if even to, the weekend.

Frankly... from what everything sounds like... I'm kind of hoping he passes quickly. I don't think this kind of chest trauma is something that a 90y.o. man will really recover from. Even if he medically recovers, I can't imagine what it would do to my grandfather to be bedridden for... I don't know, a year or more, maybe the rest of his life.

I mean, the guy used to talk half-jokingly about, when he just couldn't take care of himself anymore, wanting to go by taking an airplane up to 10,000 feet in the middle of nowhere, pointing it at the ground, and seeing how fast he could get before he hit the ground.

At the risk of sounding like an ass, it looks like he tried that with a car. LOL (Meant as light heartedly as possible.)

When people are in this type of condition, it's really hard to know what to hope and pray for. You want them around, but you don't want them to suffer and you want them to be happy and comfortable. Even if that's in the arms of their maker. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys and hoping and praying for the best outcome for everyone.

Also late to this thread - really sorry to hear about your grandfather. I can't think of much helpful to say other than I'm keeping good thoughts for you and your family.

You did not sound like an ass. You made me chuckle. That can't have been the case though, since my grandfather doesn't do things halfway.

Yeah, I don't know whether quick recovery or quick passing is the best option at this point. Obviously I'd love a quick recovery for him... but I'm just suspecting that's not in the cards this time.
