I took the mid-day off so the Mrs. Tuna could go in for her pre-op, as the baby will be delivered on Monday. Driving to school with kid #3 to pick up #1 and #2, I get a call.
2 and I spent the day at the Dr.s, broken tibia. We're sleeping downstairs tonight, him on the couch and me on the floor. He's going to be hobbling around and we're going to be sleep deprived with kid #4 for a few weeks.
Want to make God laugh? Show him your plans!
He's been good about it. Poor kid. Tylenol w/ Codine and Ibuprofen together seem to take the edge off enough for him to sleep. He's scared. He can't pee without me holding him over the toilet. Can't sit in the carseat without screaming. Poor thing.
Seems like there might be part of your story missing.
Did Karl hack your account? You left something out.

wow, that's weird. There was a whole paragraph there.
Turns out he broke his leg. He (3 yrs old in December) jumped off of something on the playground and broke his tibia. Luckily, a parent at a meeting at the school was an orthopedic Dr of some sort, so we got triage on the spot and an apt very quickly.

Yes, that seems to have been an important omission.
Oh, wow. That sucks. Good luck to him, that's a young age for a broken bone.
On the bright side he probably won't remember it, so he won't be scared of the outdoors. But on the other side he probably won't remember it, so he'll break something again.
Both of my daughters broke forearms on the monkeybars. If I had any brains, I would have sued the E36 M3 out of the school, but instead I chalked it up to life experience. They held on tighter afterwards.
Kids heal fast, but he's gonna be pissed off for a while. I agree that his timing coulda been a bit better. It should have happened while you were in the delivery room. Thats what my kids would have done. I plan on having a pair of heart attacks just before their weddings, to get even.

some might say you did more for them with this example than if you'd sued and won a pile.

Back in the early 80's while in elementary school, I actually pushed a kid off the monkey bars and he fell and broke his arm. It was just typical boys horsing around and I wasn't trying to cause him any harm. I remember his parents telling mine that it was just an accident and for me to be more careful in the future. I can't even Imagine what would happen if one of my kids did this now.

IMO, you shouldn't 2nd guess yourself here. You did the right thing. More people need to walk that walk.

Indeed. Lawsuits have purposes, and this isn't one of them.
Poor kiddo! Luckily kids heal fast, but I know that doesn't make that phone call (and follow up care) any less stressful for you.

I broke my leg, when I was 5, on my Big Wheel. I started kindergarten with a cast on my leg.
I broke my arm, when I was 9, on my bike. I started 4th grade with a cast on my arm. A few months after that, I broke my other leg skiing.
I broke my collar bone, when I was 14, again on my bike. I spent the summer before high school in a figure-8 brace.
I doubt he'll be afraid of the outdoors or remember that bouncing of the ground or playground equipment hurts.

Kids recover faster than bank accounts.
I've fallen out of numerous trees or hit them on sleds going down wooded paths. No broken bones, but I still have a fascination and appreciation for bobsledders and lugers. I avoided a skull fracture when I tripped and fell and that big rock was cushioned by a friend's foot.
Years later, I climbed a tree in the middle of a cold, winter, New Jersey night. The blotter helped get me there but experience helped keep me there.

Update:
Kid #2 got a new red cast for three weeks
Kid #4 is sleeping on my left arm as I type, Momma sleeping a few feet away. Going home tomorrow.

These are the best of times.....
Congratulations. I always loved having new babies.

Does somone need to splain the birds and bees?
Friend's 13 year old son playing basketball in the driveway by himself, goes up for a layup, comes down, breaks the growth plates in both legs. Doc shrugged and said just a freak thing.....
I had a vasectomy earlier this year. It's really not that bad. Just sayin'.
Congrats, Tuna!
