I think I've named every car I've owned... I talk to them sometimes too.

Oddly enough the wife names her cars too

My rallycar, after spending the better part of two years on a lift fighting tooth and nail to ever run again, got named 'Humpty'. Actually, it pretty much named itself.

I had to start naming cars when I owned multiples of the same one. It started when a buddy and I both had Dark Red Turbo Coupe TBird's, they were the 87 and the 88 (the years they were). About a year later I found myself owning four Dark Red TC's. One ended up being called Layla (from the Clapton song). At one point I owned one of every color (except the stupid rare Bright Red) from 87.

The 5 is now occasionally referred to as the "Falcon" (as in Millennium Falcon, due to the bashed up silver paint and surprising performance for a cargo ship). The others right now go by their normal names (Porsche, Javelin, etc). In our Pontiac clubs we refer to Audra's Grand Prix as the GTO-NO (gee tee oh no) because it's a Grand Prix GT, and not a GTO, GTP, etc.

Some of the cars I've had were named, some not. My first car - 82 Toyo Corrolla 4dr - was Sparky because it was like a loyal, eager little dog. It tried hard.

Later years there was the 70 Impala - Priscilla - because it had such an Elvis-Era feel and seemed fairly feminine for its size.

The Mustang was stuck with Angel after it saved my ass from what could have been bad wrecks and was never mechanically damaged. But it doesn't really get called that, it's kind of a past afterthought.

Mostly, it's "The Mustang", "The MINI," and "The truck"

Normally we don't name our cars, either, But somehow the big red extended cab diesel dually 4x4 got the name "Clifford, the Big Red Truck" and it stuck. Even has a vinyl cutout of Clifford, the Big Red Dog on the back window now. Now all the friends and coworkers know it as Clifford.

Wife tried to name the MINI, But none of the "official" names stuck, and it ends up often just being called The Pooper. And neither the BMW nor Mustang have names of any sort.

Oh snap, that reminds me! I did own an Escort once (2nd Gen) that I got from the Granddaughter of the little old lady who was the original owner. She had her (Grandma) name embroidered on the dash. "Lucille"

My Dad also owned a 72 Ambassador Coupe once that he bought from a little old lady name "Roxy". We kept calling the car that. It was Metallic Red with a Bordello Red vinyl interior and a Black vinyl top.
