NASCAR a the Glen

I can't wait for next weekend for the Busch series racing at Montreal! That's an awesome track with those cars on it

Humpy Wheeler wanted to run qualifying on the dirt track at Charlotte, then run the race on the paved oval. The drivers liked the idea but NASCAR didn't.

That race was all around awesome . . . The last lap was sensational!!

Smoke coming from the back TWICE for a top 20, Johnson and Hornish being "invisible" the whole race with a great finish, Kyle getting snookered . . . . and the LAST LAP!! Those guys driving the wheels off of used up race cars on a oiled down track . . . . I was yelling at the TV!!

The Nationwide series did run in the rain in Motreal on two occasions. The first time was on the rain tires that had been sitting for th better part of a decade. The next year there was a new rain tire. Some of the teams made the mistake of changing tires in the rain even though the track was still wet and the tires still had sharp tread blocks...
The other complication was that NASCAR tried to mandate the pit stops for wets the first year. The second year the conditions were a little more variable and the teams got to decide for themselves, but cautions pretty much set the scene for wets or drys.
On the extra equipment they needed, the wipers were almost no use and most of the teams need to look at production cars to figure out how to make a useable defogger system.

The large teams with deep pockets for testing could probably deal with it, but the smaller teams would be at a huge disadvantage. for about a decade starting in the late 90's, Goodyear hauled rain tires to the road courses and NASCAR made the teams install wipers and lights in the cars, but it never rained.. they decided that the rain tires weren't any good after sitting around for a decade, and they just gave up on the rain tire thing. i don't get why they don't just make them run treaded tires at the road courses- every lap would look like the last lap yesterday without the need to have a small team spread oil all over the track..

I'm pretty sure the wipers and rain tires are for the nationwide series, because people don't stick around for a rain delay of that series.

They have been to Road America though, and it was amazing.

I'm just ready for V8 supercars in Austin next year.

I really think it is a shame that the Sprint Cup doesn't go to Road America. Hell, I'd like to see them at Road Atlanta too. The concrete jungle is too much for them, just ask Brad K.

I really would like to go to the Aussie V8 Supercars race next year.

they made the Cup teams put wipers on the cars at the road courses, but they gave up on the idea of running in the rain after about a decade or so when it never rained.
