None of the pony cars fit the bigger greenhouses of NASCAR style chassis well but that may be the least well done of the three. I’m curious why they are only running it in the Xfinity series instead of both like Chevy and Ford.

Interesting. I have no input on the NASCAR aspect of the story so I won’t go looking for a fight about it.
The team up part of the story is mixed for me. Just like with the Frisbee twins, they are teaming up with another manufacturer with more performance experience. This could be interpreted two ways. One, they suck and don’t know how to do anything beyond beige so of course they need Subaru or BMW to figure it out. On that note, both engines come from the other companies. I see it in the FRS/GT as ok because the car was designed around a boxer, Subaru’s forte. As for the strait 6, while that is BMW’s specialty, it is also something that Toyota has a history with.
On the other hand, teaming up is a wise business decision to both minimize risk maximize resources. At least this time the shared cars will be more different than the badges of the frisbee twins.

Chevy and Ford both began using their pony cars in the Xfinity series before the Cup series. Probably to do some testing with it at a lower tier before bringing it to the top level.
Advertising. Toyota is trying to cross the good ol boy threshold and get the supra into more hands. That, and I'm guessing it's got some fairly favorable aerodynamics.

And Chev is just now coming to grips with the new car. I imagine a bit of concern for Ford teams with them getting the new body next year. Might be a struggle.

Ironically the NASCAR Supra has more Toyota DNA than the street Supra. The street Supra has a BMW engine and transmission (no manual option) and the next-gen BMW Z4 chassis and a lot of similarities in the Z4 styling out back. The NASCAR version has a TRD-developed pushrod V8 and a TRD-designed chassis.

I know I'm not the only one that uses the 'Latest Topics' button almost exclusively, so putting this in the off topic section instead of the GRM section will not make much of a difference I don't think.
I would imagine that they may have missed the deadline to get it approved for Cup. We worked with Nascar to get the first Toyota approved and it is a lengthy process. I think in the next year or so you will see the Mustang and Camaro both in the Cup series, so it makes sense for Toyota to use a different name for theirs also. I'm also pretty sure the new name gets better aero to go along with it. I know in the past the nose and tail had to have some percentage of form from the production cars, not sure about now however. In our case, we had to have a direct mold taken from the production car.
