Preparing a system for marine use. Need vibration isolation for a recorder. Unit is small, 12x9x3, light at 3 pounds. Just want to protect against impacts and vibration as seen on yachts. Will be in a waterproof case. Any ideas? Thanks, Chuck

This is a Pelican brand Case.
Can you mimic this idea?
They make smaller versions.

In reply to JohnRW1621:

I think condensation would be an issue with something like that.

you only get condensation if you have unequal temperatures between inside and out. You can also combat it with silica packs

... or by pressurizing the case with nitrogen, although that may be a bit tougher.

I interpreted the original question as he is looking for something to act as a cushion between his case and the boat.

FTFY

For vibration isolation, mount it using something that clamps around the camera with latex foam in between? That's what they did on gas RCs.

Pelican case is a bit extreme. I am mostly looking for a vibration damping arrangement. Soft rubber mounting? I have several sources for the case itself. Pressurizing is not an option. Just would like to hear from someone with actual experience. Thanks.

Woody is correct.

How about those insulation strips you find on fuel tanks, cushioning between the tank and the car's body?

In reply to GameboyRMH: This is for the recorder, not cameras. They are not a problem. Marine systems are stupid money, with little advantage over my regulat product. I want to get into that market, This is a very busy area for marine products and I have contacts.

In reply to Lesley: That sounds interesting, will look into that.

Call these people and ask: http://www.vibrationmounts.com/

Take their recommendation and make something similar if the goal is cheap, or just buy from them.
