My fiancee's 50" Samsung has shut off 3 times on it's own in the last hour or so I've been home. Last time had 3 lights on the front panel flashing. This probably isn't good.

I don't even know what to look for. I still had my 32 or 34" regular tube TV when I met her 3 years ago.

LED? LCD? Plasma? I don't even know what specs to look at. Refresh rates up 240hz and higher according to Best Buy. I'm lost. Any help? (Like to stay around 50" and less than $1k)

Google the problem. I believe is a capacitor issue and an easier fix than you'd think. I've seen several older samsungs do that.

The capacitors in the power supply are failing. Rummer is that counterfeit low quality capacitors flooded the market several years ago.

Sometimes you can get rebuilt power supplies on ebay.

unless you need 96inches.. I would not go plasma. They are just energy hogs

Fiancee did some searching by model number and found a link saying the bulb needs replacing, "as evidenced by the three flashing lights up front." Now to see about a bulb for this thing. Also searching the model says it's a DLP or something.

Hoping I can find a bulb someplace local.

If it's a DLP and needs a bulb, it's a rear projection. Some of those bulbs can get pretty pricy. The one for my projector is in the $300 range. The TV bulbs might be less since they don't have to be as bright.

I just installed a new OEM bulb housing/bulb in my 50" Samsung DLP. About $100 and a week to get it to my door. A five minute fix. Search YouTube. I decided against getting a knock off bulb for $45 ish. You need to get the number off of your bulb before you order to get the right one.

Did a quick search, see listings for $40 or so. Hoping to find one local? Rather not wait a week (not a TV fan, we don't watch regular or cable, but we do like our Netflix.)

If you do decide to replace the TV may I suggest a Samsung LED? I won like $1500 on a random Best Buy reward zone thing and purchased one in the size of 55inches. Picture quality is great, sound is great, 3D is neat but we've used it like twice. Netflix is built into the TV so no more using the PS3 energy hog for that. Can download lots of apps onto the TV as well. I can even use my Galaxy S3 as a remote, if I find a cool video on youtube on my phone I press a button on the phone and the youtube video is on 55inches instantly.

What are the odds I can find a Samsung BP96-01472A bulb local in Dayton/Cincinnati?

this is GRM... as shown a quick google of the problem with the model number will likely find the problem.

my grandma-in-law had her 32" LCD go out... she called RCA and best buy and was basically told it wasn't worth fixing... so she picked up a new one, this time she moved to a 42" or so and spent less than she had the 32" from 3 years prior... I took the old TV home and with a little time on Google and a multimeter I found the issue was a 250mah polyfuse... a bit of solder, a solder iron fixed it and it's been working fine in my bedroom for the last 2 or so years.

Fiancee tried two local stores today (after I left for rallycross), and said neither store even existed. Guess I'm ordering Amazon tomorrow with the quickest delivery they offer. I just started a 9 day vacation & would REALLY like to watch some Netflix occasionally. (Like tonight after being gone 12hrs for an event...)
