In his defense I did hear him say his goal was to move to an all streaming format in interviews years ago, at the time I thought he was crazy, that bandwidth would never be that good in the US. Well it's working somehow. I am quite impressed, we use the streaming service all the time it works great even with HD* 5.1 content. It's not as good as a blu-ray but it will get there.

When netflix started it was discs only for a low price, you can still get discs only for a low price if you want. While they were growing the streaming side they offered it for free to their users, a great bonus. Now that that side of the business has grown to a rich and reliable service it can no longer be offered for free and continue to add content and fight with studios for streaming rights.

If another company can come along and do a better job for a lower price then I welcome them. But really for $8 am month for one thing or $16 for 2 things is small potatoes still in these days of $100+ cable bills.

I will stick with Netflix myself, I rarely add discs to my que any more so there may come a time when I don't even need the mail service any more and can just drop it, but as far as I am concerned it is still a bargain and the whiners should be quiet.

I'd like to go streaming only but the streaming stuff is mostly older or odd stuff. I like old, odd, and odd old stuff plenty, but I want to see something newer. The thing that sent me over the edge when Netflix raised the price was to REMOVE items from the streaming list. I was watching two series that were gone. What??

I was a Netflix subscriber for at least 9 years. I was an early adopter. I quit right after the split and price increase, not because the price was unreasonable, but because of the way they went about the whole mess. I got the email today. I agree with the OP, it basically said, "I screwed it up, and now it's up to you to put up with."

I'm not any closer to coming back than I was when I left. Been doing Redbox for DVDs and missing out on streaming.

I dropped the DVD service today, the last day before my plan was set to automatically "upgrade" itself to the new pricing. Unless the quality of service and library dramatically improve by then, I plan to drop the rest once the Starz streaming content goes offline.

I have no interest in this Quikster nonsense, especially so now that the services won't be integrated. I half believe that this is a plan designed to fail, maybe they're setting themselves up to look like heroes when they bring back the old service ala Coke Classic. I might as well go with Blockbuster now if I really want a DVD by mail service. As it is now, I tend to watch more DVDs from Redbox than Netflix anyway.

I've had netflix for six or seven years now. I dropped DVD's not long after streaming only became an option. I've never had a bad thing to say about them, and I still don't. I think the bundled service is still a great value, even with the price hike. No one likes paying more, but between paying movie studios and I'm sure postage increases, I didn't see the price hike as atrocious. I may try the DVD thing again once they add videogames if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

They acknowledge that people are pissed about the price increase, and to make us feel better about the increase they are going to change the name and make us go to two separate sites to look up movies???

They need to use that letter in Business and Public Relations classes to show how to best alienate your customers that stuck with you after you doubled the price.

I read the email letter and it reminded me that every time I log in to watch a stream I can't find anything new, everything I search for is unavailable and that I was halfway thru season 1 of Dexter when they pulled it.

I canceled the service in response to that email. Now I aiming my displeasure at the other thing I pay for and don't watch much... Dish Network. 400 channels of nothing ... you are next.

I'm as pissed as everyone else that I'm going to have to go to two different sites, that seems ridiculous to me. But, unless someone else comes up with a better and easier service I'll be staying with Netflix and Qixter or what ever it's called. I switched from BB to Netflix years ago as the DVD selection for me is/was so much better with Netflix. No one else seems to offer British TV series in the depth/volume they do. If anyone else starts offer Brit stuff in the volume they do I might consider switching.

We've never had cable, and although we obviously have a TV I would say we (wife and I, not kids) maybe watch 1 hour every couple of weeks at best as neither of us can stand 20 mins of commercials for 40 mins of content. There's nothing worth watching worth that level of interruption, I'll wait for it to come on DVD or streaming.

I've grown to like British TV via Netflix. Doc Martin, Top Gear (naturally), Good Neighbors and there's another one in my cue right nwo with Martin Clune, can't remember the name right now. But, BB does have Doc Martin and the other Martin Clune program, didn't look for Good Neighbors.

I really can not figure out what Netflix is trying to do other than put themselves out of buniness. With that being said we are keeping them though we dropped the DVD portion of our plan. I have been watching a lot of foriegn movies that I would not have known about otherwise. I hope they can pull their head out of their *** and fix this before its too late.

What does Apple TV give you? I looked at them, but your basicaly limited to using it for Netflix etc? I don't understand. Also you can't play bittorents on Apple TV which makes it useless for me.

We dropped discs on Netflix. We hadn't really been enjoying them. A disc would show up and it was always something we wanted to watch, but usually not when it arrived.

yup xbox 360 does nicely as the media center extender... add tversity and it will play most formats :)... and stream netflix and hulu.

I've been looking at options and based on specs (not actually using) the WD live tv plus is what I'm considering... hardware decoding for most formats, just sounds ideal for those who torrent...

but none of those setop boxes is a HTPC

I've used their free Logitech iPhone app and software utility on some of my HTPC's. Works pretty well, so I wonder if the "full monty" would be worth plunking the money down for?
