No it's not Prometheus 2 either.

Sigourney Weaver hinted about it on the Tonight Show. I kind of hope Louis C.K. gets at least a gruesome cameo.

Neill Blomkamp confirmed it:
http://www.popularmechanics.com/culture/movies/a14155/neill-blomkamp-new-aliens-movie/

Concept Art:

Ripley in disguise, like Atax?

Corporal Hicks has some acid scaring. Wonder how they're going to make this work, pretend Alien 3 never happened? (I'd be okay with that) Maybe Hicks was cloned too?

I'm way more excited about this than any "normal" rational nerd should be.

I was fairly disappointment in Prometheus, but I didn't hate it as much as most.

Script isn't even written yet, so I've got a while to wait for this one.

Maybe it will be set between II and III. Hicks and the girl were dead at the start of III as I remember, but it certainly could be that they woke up somewhere else then went back into sleep before III.

Honestly, I am not terribly concerned with "keeping the timeline". Trying to stick to that can make movies do some ridiculous things trying to conform. Of course, if they are going to be using Hicks and Ripley, they kind of need to. Keep the kid though? Killing off a little girl will be an interesting start to a movie...

As mentioned Weaver may be getting a bit old for it. REALLY hope they don't follow the "clone" Ripley thing though.

How about a nice Colonial Marine shootem' up movie?

I'm okay with ignoring Aliens III. I mean, I didn't hate that movie, it just wasn't as awesome as the original horror movie or the sequel action movie or Firefly-in-beta-testing Resurrection (which was the best Alien movie ever and feel free to disagree with me, I'm used to it) but me and the rest of the world have been perfectly fine with the removal of T3 from canon so why not Aliens 3 down the memory hole too?

Because T3 was bad. Like, really bad. Like, someone read a crowdsourced Terminator fanfic written by morons and said "You know what, this has explosions and E36 M3 and people will go to the theaters no matter what so let's make a movie out of this."

There were a handful of graphic novels published between Aliens and Alien 3 that would have made a MUCH better screen play than Alien 3. I too don't hate Alien 3, but would love to see one of the other story lines developed for the big screen.

On the subject of Terminator, Dark Horse did a series of Alien Vs. Predator Vs. Terminator, they weren't the best stories, but the art work was pretty sweet.

Personally I'd LOVE to see elements of Dark Horse's Aliens: Stronghold series make it to the big screen.

Who wouldn't want to see a foul mouthed, cigar smoking, pulse rifle wielding, Xenomorph android in live action?!?!?

Anyone else a Norbert fan?

Sigourney weaver from aliens was my first crush, quickly replaced by princess Leia.

Aliens was the best of the series, but I ain't missed one yet. Looking forward to seeing the return of the badass hicks.

One of my favorite pieces of movie trivia: Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton have both played characters that have been killed by a Terminator, an Alien, and a Predator.

can't they think of a new premise?

even if they have to use the same thing and give it a different name, like how they named the gritty Short Circuit reboot "Chappie"..

One day, hopefully someone in Hollywood will come up with a new idea-----instead of endlessly rehashing old ones.

I'm still waiting for a remake of the Maltese Falcon. This time I want it animated, with Ren (From Ren and Stimpy) playing Peter Lorre's character. Stimpy could be the "fat man".

I think I still have that comic series as well. Too bad it's not worth the current market prices of The Walking Dead.

Ooh! Alien vs Zombies!

The story can consist of "Aliens land and fight Zombies...the end." and it would rake in millions.

I liked Alien the most, but I liked all of the movies in the franchise...well Prometheus was entertaining.

Personally I see no reason why we couldn't have a story line after Resurrection.

Aside from some acid blood and a weird understanding of xenomorph intellect, she's not all that different from her previous self.

So far, apart from AvP, we haven't seen the xenomorph outside of a space ship or enclosed space. Ripley could be endowed with the ability to "blend in" to a hive.

The one thing that has been hinted at but never really fully fleshed out was the idea that the xenomorph will adopt some of its host's genetic makeup. In A3, we saw the "dog alien", but it would be cool to see some larger, smaller, flying, aliens.

I'm a big fan of 'ALIEN' and 'ALIENS', the rest of the series just didn't impress me at all. 'Prometheus' could have been good, unfortunately it just wasn't. About the only thing that one accomplished was explaining where the xenomorphs came from. So I am not going to get real fired up about yet another in the series because I'll just get let down again.

And yeah Hicks was probably the best character (other than Ripley) in the whole shebang, although Ash and Parker in the original were strong as well. Yeah, I know Ash had to go.

In reply to PHeller:

Resurrection is set 200 years after the events of Alien 3, if Hicks is back in the new movie, they'll have to explain that, he and Newt were both dead at the beginning of 3. They somehow cloned Ripley from what was left of her, after diving into molten metal, so I guess there was more than enough of Hicks left to do the same.

Really showing my nerdiness in this thread.

The Alien 3 Xenomorph was my favorite, and in the theatrical release it was the "dog burster," but in the directors cut it was an Ox/Cow/Some kind of Bovine burster, yet looked the same as the theatrical release.

Regardless, somewhere in a box in the attic I have a model of the dog burster, I put together sometime around Jr. High age. 1:9 scale, dust collector, of terrifying awesomeness!

Kenner, really embraced the whole, Xenomorph developing attributes of it's host, concept with all of their action figures, and related comic series. Yes, I had just about every one of them too. The picture of Ripley from the concept art in the first post, is similar to Kenner's Atax character, who wore a large Xenomorph-esque power suit, that allowed him to infiltrate the hives.

Dark Horse took a similar spin in the Stronghold series mentioned earlier, they discussed developing synthetic Xenomorph pheromones to disguise Norbert the Xenomorph android (think Bishop from Aliens, but looks like an Alien not a person) so Norbert could infiltrate hives and infect the colony with a pathogen that was developed to kill Xenomorphs.

In reply to ncjay:

Dark Horse teamed up with DC and really milked the series for all it had didn't they?

There were Aliens Vs. Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern. I don't think DC was the publisher, but even Judge Dredd got to fight Xenomorphs.

I have also read the Scott is planning on doing a sequel to Prometheus. I loved the execution of the movie (as with many other Scott movies) but the story was pretty disappointing.

I read the original script to Prometheus, and it was clearly a bit better (explained more). Scotts thoughts on the entirety of the Prometheus story though were just sadly un-creative. (let's just say a certain prominent historical figure that was around say 2000 years ago or so, was supposed to be a creator alien)

Say what?

"It’s been a busy week for Blomkamp, who implied that his Alien project would ignore Alien 3 and Resurrection, the less beloved sequels to the first two films. But now the director is backtracking, and he wants to make something clear: he’s not actually ignoring those films after all—not really, anyway.

In yet another interview, this time with AlloCine, Blomkamp clarified his earlier comments, explaining that his new film will take place between Alien and Aliens:

My favorites are the first two movies, so I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection; I just want it to be connected to Alien 1 and 2."

Not sure how that will work?

As I noted. They go to sleep at the end of two, they wake up dead (Hicks and the girl), or implanted (Ripley) at the start of III. There is no reason why they could not have woken up earlier, (movie), then went back to sleep to be found in III. Worst case, they may need to either use or explain (find another) the same craft they used in II (not sure that is really an issue though).

I am not sure they ever explain how Ripley managed to get implanted between II and III anyway. Was the face hugger supposed to be inside the craft when they went to sleep?
