I would be down for applying as well if it didn't seem they are looking for engineers in nearly every position, and I don't particularly want to work on an assembly floor.

It seems like they are hiring engineers for everything:

"Window Engineer"

"Driver Controls Engineer"

"Passenger Experience Engineer"

"Janitorial Engineer"

Congrats!

Of course I had to follow the careers link, but unfortunately the bit about CA/AZ kills it for me.

Looks like you moved east too soon.smiley

Last year when Annie and I were on vacation in Palm Springs we met a guy who works there. I won't divulge his full name here, but a partial hint is "Mark Thor..." and his title is Program Director. He's British, and had spent time at BMW prior to this gig. We had a very enjoyable evening around the firepit at our small hotel drinking wine and discussing the car industry, particularly non-traditional manufacturing techniques (i.e., less costly). I don't know if he's still at Lucid, but if he is and if you meet him, tell him his Palm Springs friends from the small hotel said hi.

Small World. I met Mark in my new employee orientation.  He left the company about two weeks ago.

So they are actually in Newark? Bummer - the wrong side of the Bay for me.

Even Tesla has their engineering offices in Palo Alto where all the cool kids are.

I live in Redwood City. Going against traffic makes it easy to get across the bridge. Getting through the mess around Facebook is the biggest challenge.

All of who are hesitant about applying because of concerns about the long term viability of the company, start-ups are not the place to be if you need stability from your employer. I came into this with my eyes wide open. Probably half of my employers for the last 15 years are out of business, been bought by a larger company or had a bankruptcy/reorganization.

I wonder if they have a "Make sure all these damn engineers talk to each other" position.  That is probably what I could do at a company like that, although there's not a lot in my documented work history to prove that.  But in many ways, that is often what I do.

That's generally what engineering managers are for, and also what most are really bad at. I, too, am trying to get into a similar role without any actual documented history behind it, and it's been fairly hard to get any warm responses back.  Otherwise, I'm done with engineering and moving on...

Thanks for posting Type Q,

Do you know if they have any presence in SoCal? I'm looking for similar opportunities down there.

Glad to hear its working out for you so far!
