I wish I'd bought a copy to share with everyone, but didn't think about it until later, but one of the major local papers ran a front-page headline Saturday about Chicago loosing their Olympic bid that read "Wind out of Their Sale".
At first I thought it must have been a play on words, but a quick read through the first couple paragraphs dismissed that notion.
You know it's one thing when a craigslist seller lists an item "for sell". I understand that they may not be fluent in English, or have had the benefit of a good education, but when relatively large newspapers do it on their front page headlines it's just a sad day for the English language.
I dunno, Pete. Given the journalism majors I've met, I'd say they most of them are not fluent in English and have not had the benefit of a good education. We must feel sorry for these poor, dumb, easily manipulated doofuses and subsidize their industry. Otherwise, we will lose our hole on da peeps and da tea parteyers and da BJs in DC will stop.

The printed newpaper is soon going the way of the Dodo bird, IMO. After subscribing to our local paper for nearly 30 years, I recently cancelled the sub due to the poor content. The editorial/comment section has become little more than a vent for hotheads, the classifieds have shrunk to nothing, and the columnists and reporters have such a liberal slant on everything it tests the limits of objectivity. I think it's a shame, but all we can really do is vote with our wallets.
I delivered The Chicago Tribune in 1975-1976 and I have always been a subscriber. They recently jacked the price 50% and I decreased back to 3 days.
I will be letting this drop after it runs out. The papers are all on the internet.

Chicago Tribune sucks. Its absolutely awful. The last time that they changed it (maybe a year ago-ish?) was it for me.

Maybe that "typo" was intentional since the city was trying to "sell" itself as the host-city?
Nope, I don't think so, either.........
I let my local newspaper lapse a while back. They got taken over by the NY Times and it went to hell. Typos all over the place, especially in the header. Decreased the size and number of pages and increased the subscription.
One down – two to go…how long before we "reward" teachers & entertainers for their arrogant exploitation of their positions as well.

Just curious as to what you mean. I used to teach.

Or they'll have to become doctors instead.

Now, Margie, you're pretty far out in the world of journalism. I mean, GRM, right? That's about as far from the NY Times as you can get. You have to admit that the vast majority of people you've seen in "mainstream" journalism are about as sharp as a beach ball.

Oh, I'm not a journalist. Just couldn't resist drawing the obvious parallel when you said "most of them are not fluent in English and have not had the benefit of a good education. We must feel sorry for these poor, dumb, easily manipulated doofuses and subsidize their industry." That perfectly describes how I'm coming to view the medical industry.

There you go. Enjoy. And while you're not looking, off to the liberal terrorist training camps I go. I will eat your children.
Hi Gimp,
Just so you know, over the last five years, I’ve allocated 35% of my time to teaching in a corporate environment. I’ve taught well over 2,000 folks and not one has ever complained.
This isn’t due to dumb luck, it’s the result of my adherence to standards I see flagrantly violated all the time in our public schools.
Think about what I just said…things I wouldn’t dare impose on highly educated, critically thinking adults are routinely thrust upon innocent, defenseless children…I find the state of affairs in our public school system truly repugnant.
Take care,
Brett

Well, Margie, I'm not going to disagree with you. Look up H1B visas some time. It's frightening. At least the US Dept of Agriculture got out of the business of importing them. Yes, the Dept of Ag imported doctors from foreign countries. It's just like the rest of our economy: They're not willing to provide a living wage that U.S. trained people need to survive, so they import these H1B's (or illegal aliens, depending on your industry) to work for peanuts, which keeps the wages artificially depressed. No need to raise wages to what it will take to get US citizens to work there if you just get a foreigner to do it. The free market system is then tossed out the window. The money goes back to their home country, out of US circulation and never to buy GRM magazines and T shirts again.
Fortunately, the only doctors I look at on a regular basis are my wife (D.C.) and the one in the mirror. My mother, on the other hand, has the same problems you state out in the PRC. She had one that spoke Afrikaners, which is close enough to Dutch that they could talk in it. The rest were Russian, Hindi, and various other odd ball languages.

Hi Nebago,
Bhahaha…you’re right.
I just stumbled onto that site while looking for a clip of the “Mmm-Mmm-Mmm Barack Obama” indoctrination song the K-2 kids performed.
Note-To-Self…drill down into sites a little before posting links to them.
Sorry about that,
Brett

Thread fail. The headline is clearly a pun (admittedly not a spectacularly clever one) based on Chicago's nickname and the fact that Obama was over there to sell their bid to the IOC. I'm not convinced of the long term viability of the printed newspaper either, but to call them out as uneducated or ignorant of the english language based on a dumb pun is really reaching.
Josh, Pete sez:
>At first I thought it must have been a play on words, but a quick read through the first couple paragraphs dismissed that notion.
That means uneducated, ignorant of the English language. Or are you calling Pete uneducated and ignorant of the English language? 'Cause I've seen "journalism" majors.

I can see now that there is really no point in furthering this conversation. Continue your regularly scheduled parade of insults without me.
Sure, Josh, no problem. Most "TV Journalists" require an assistant to stand near them and remind them to breath every few seconds, otherwise they would asphyxiate. These are referred to as “Executive Producer” in the credits.
the only thing left in my home town paper that is worth reading is the funnies... we actually have a pretty decent 2 pages of funnies.... sorta shows where our priorities lie...
