Just finished this book. It was so full of ballz out american kickassedness that I finished it in 1.5 days. This is not a academic read or one full of fancy language.

It is just a story about a kid from Jersey who joins the 101st airborne, lands in Normandy and promptly gets captured. He then escapes with a Cherokee indian buddy and proceeds to join the french resistance and kick ass. Won't tell you the rest, but there is much ass kicking and some sorrow..

This guy is humble and truly 100% a true american hero.

read it.. Bask in the ass kicking... Be proud to be an American.

I will not lie, when he describes the scenes of disrespect and attrocites that happen to American POW's in the hands of the Germans, My blood started to rise and I shed a tear. He describes being brought into SS HQ in Paris just so that the SS could rain spit down on the POW's from a platform built specifically for the purpose. Truly gripping and heart wrenching stuff.

Again.. As always.. Thanks Grandpa.. http://www.wwiimemorial.com/registry/search/pframe.asp?HonoreeID=643892&popcount=1&tcount=2

I'll have to check that out! We did a lot of filming for the Library of Congress that captured a lot of WWII vets acounts several years back. One guy I taped was a ball turret gunner. He and his crew were shot down behind enemy lines and captured. An SS officer walked up, asked who the captain was, then put a pistol to his head and killed him. No words, no nothing according to this guy. Basically it was motivation for the crew to tell them everything they know. Two days later the remaining crew (1 had been killed while being shot down) were rescued when the Chinese overran their position. He was later shot down again and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp. His stories of the Germans were hair rasing, but pretty tame compared to the ones captured by the Japanese.

These people truly were amazing in what they went through.

Ummm, where exactly would the guy have been interned that the Chinese would have overrun an SS camp?

Yeah, the Chinese overtook the SS camp. Just after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor. Don't you guys know history? Ya'll have obviously been in too many NEA schools.

You'll need to log in to post.
