I do prefer a bit of a "bite" if you will, not so much a mashed potato feel to my BBQ, so take that for what you will.
I have eaten at a restauarant chain that used a mechanical chopper. It comes out about one grade above hash. They fianlly got rid of it and went conventional. I would refuse to eat it and went for their coarse chopped, which was more like cubes and cost more.
