I am ashamed to admit, this build has taken me years to get this far. Other boats have gotten in the way of building it even this far. The Boat in question is a design from Chesapeake Light Craft, their "expedition wherry". One of the main contributors to my tardiness in building was my varying from the plans as delivered. (this was not built from a kit) in both big and small ways. While I loved the rough water capabilities of the decked over wherry, I wanted something that looked less like the cross between a kayak and racing shell. Thus, I changed the hatches, the combing around the cockpit, and the rub rail that surrounds the boat. Every time I made a change, I would pause to make sure it works and figure out how to fit it all in.
I also made a huge change to the boat. I cut it into three parts. The sealed Bow and Stern are bolted onto the open cockpit in the middle. This will make it easier to handle than a single 18 foot long boat that weighs about 100 pounds. Of course mine will probably weigh in around 110 with all the changes, but that should give me a slightly better glide.
I decided to post this up as this was the first time the boat has been in one piece in over a year. I have to finish the cockpit furnishings before I can glue the deck down. Then I have a world of sanding to get her lines fair before paint and varnish go on.
How the plans show it should look:
