I had another kidney stone attack. Unfortunately it won't pass, so I was admitted into the hospital. Going to try to see if it will pass overnight, if it doesn't, we will be figuring out the next step in the morning. At least I'm on good drugs.

That sucks, kidney stones are awful. They may be able to break them up with some fancy ultrasonic thing. I remember that as an option when I had mine.

Same here on my birthday too.

That Dilaudid is a hell of a drug though ... Once it kicked in I did not feel a thing.

I saw a guy right after he cut off his thumb and he was in less pain that the last kidney stone patient we had.

Get better soon.

The real problem with kidney stone s is when the piss doesn't come out.

My wife had kidney stones. They wanted to operated. She changed her diet and after a few months, they were gone
I was amazed. She's pretty tough, I don't know if I could have tolerated that pain for that long.

Ask if they do ultrasonics.

Good luck.

They usually don't "operate". It's a long scope that inserted via the hootus all the way up to the offending site. Then using a laser or ultrasonics they break it apart and allow the debris to pass behind the withdrawing scope. If I'm remembering it all correctly, I've been out of medicine for a while now.

Feel better soon though!

I believe the technical term for the ultrasonic machines is lithotripsy.

Yes and no. I had a kidney stone about 5 years ago. The one time I went to the ER for it, they gave me Dilaudid. Yep - took the pain away. Made me incredibly sick as well.

What KyAllroad mentioned is how mine was eventually removed. The stone was lodged at the entrance to the bladder. Unfortunately, they had to wait a month to see if it would pass before they could schedule the surgery. That was a fun 30 days. Not. Especially since I had been first diagnosed about year prior and it was obvious the stone wasn't going to pass.

I've had kidney stones once as has my Wife. She did the natural child birth thing twice and states that the kidney stones were worse.

Thanks everyone, I am home now. Luckily the urologist was able to get me into surgery first thing this morning and I got a stent put in between my kidney and bladder. He was able to get the stone out that was stuck, but I have an 8mm stone that hasn't dropped and needs to be broke up with a lithotripsy on Tuesday.
