Is she competing? I thought she didn't qualify...

Sadly, no cameras cut back to show their expressions after she won that race.

So you're right Joey. Guess I'll have to enjoy all the other great athletes.

I anticipated it. Just like I used to put up with shortwave radio's reception problems because US radio sucks, I now put up with video quality problems because US TV sucks.

She did not qualify. No Miss Jenneke to watch.

Once it gets to the actual sports commentators during the events, it's not so bad, it's like watching any other sport. It's all the BS in between that could make a sane man crazy.

That is stupid to disqualify a team.

You wouldn't want to avoid a hard team?
I know in high school soccer we had already got top seed going into a tournament so we threw a game so that we wouldn't have to play a team.

I admit it, I have a weakness for women who are stronger than I

I have mixed feeling about this. If you're a swimmer or runner who backs off in a prelim to save some gas for a final you're strategizing. But if you're a badminton player who backs off you're cheating. Honestly I'm not sure where the line is.

Intentionally hitting the cock into the net multiple times is not exactly the same as backing off. Throwing games is not something we should promote, in high school or otherwise. How am I going to win any bets if you guys don't play to win?
Someone didn't want to play a harder team? What's the point of competing then?
What was the point spread? Did any player bet on the outcome of the game?

I watched the archery, too. Very interesting. The bows look like engineering masterpieces, and the arrows look too thin.
We watched some of that, too. My wife likes it because she's from S.Korea and they tend to rock at archery. Their bows are pretty crazy. I have an olympic style recurve sitting around here (sans that giant stabilizer bar that sticks out the front- there's a place to put one but I didn't get one, seemed a bit excessive) and it's almost crazy looking next to the wooden longbow sitting next to it. It's fast, stable, and really heavy to hold. Honestly i don't get as much joy out of using it compared to the wooden ones, but it's certainly a great target shooter. You wouldn't want to hunt with it since it's heavy (to hold up, not to pull) and the shiny anodized aluminum riser is more than enough to alert your prey, but target shooting at 70 meters it's far easier to be accurate. The skinny arrows fly faster (lighter and less wind resistance) so they don't drop as far height wise, allowing for easier aiming.

I don't much like boxing, but that ukrainian dude was poetry to watch.
Saw an interview with Pestorius yesterday – didn't realize he was such a babe. Now I'm doubly rooting for him to do well.
Best name: canadian swimmer Victoria Poon
