Charles Manson, the sinister hippie cult leader who declared himself "the Devil" and dispatched his followers to commit a series of Hollywood murders in 1969 that shocked the country, died Sunday night in a California state hospital. He was 83 years old.

I'll drink to that.
Sucked taxpayer tit for 48 years
He was an interesting soul, I will say that.
And he was the worst kind, the kind that doesn't do their own dirty work. These types often escape justice.

Awww, too damn bad...
...that he didn't die 50 years ago.
I used to think he needed to force fed some electrons and buried in a compost pile, but sitting in a cell, no goals, no outlet waiting to die? The death penalty is just too easy.
There was a guy here in the 70s named Lemuel Smith. Big guy, killed a couple that ran a Christian book store, I think he killed a Nun, killed a prison guard once inside. I say anyone like Manson should be dressed up like a nun and tossed in the box with Lemuel Smith for a while.

Not to mention that the death penalty is more expensive than life in prison.

Yeah, you can't just say "$0.50 worth of brass and lead" for the expense.
My mom has a cousin who had a run in with Charlie right before the killings. He was a CHP officer and pulled over the van he was driving. They stood on the side of the road and had a good talk. He was already going to let Mr. Manson off with a warning and found him engaging and highly intelligent on the few subjects they touched on. As they talked the side door of the van opened and a couple of girls popped out with "can we start?" while looking at my relative. They were quickly shooed back into the van and my Mom's cousin left the scene shaken.
Not much later, the killings started. They could have started with him.
