So help me we'd better hit the powerball after this day.

Wife got news we'd sort of expected but weren't quite ready for and got her layoff notice today. No fault of her's, her company just lost some major contracts and can't keep everyone one. Anyone looking for a certified meeting and event planner?

One one side it blows, on the other it frees her up to focus on Asphault Adventures fulltime for the time being. She really intends to grow it into a full event planning organization so now she has some time to work that. It will mean some belt tightening since AA is a long ways from producing any income but she does get a few months severance so she can use that to really work out all the details on S2S and her expansion plans and with any luck maybe find a new position during that time.

Then on the way home my daughter calls and her car just cut out for no reason, complete power shutdown. I feel so helpless when that crap happens and Im 4 hours away. Oddly while she was waiting for her mom to come try to jump start it the power just came back and she was able to restart and head home...scares me but I can't do anything until I can lay hands on it again.

Just one of those days, just needing to vent. Carry on :)

Dark cloud/Silver lining and all that.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Good luck with Asphalt Adventures. It sounds like a blast to participate and run. Do one in the Southeast for us.

Yeah, sorry, just had to get it off my chest and think outloud, wife is freaking a bit and Im doing the whole supportive, we'll get through it number but you just gotta vent.

Southeast is a definite possibility, we are in early talks with a vendor in that area to do a sponsored 1-3 day run sponsored by their company, still early but if anything comes of it I will let ya know :) Even if nothing comes of that particular opportunity I have an open run that I planned for that area based on a theme so given enough interest and time to sort it out I'll be doing something down there soon.

Me too, especially on this car where EVERYTHING runs through the ECU so god only knows why it had a little brain fart and shut down. Might be a big issue, might never happen again, ya just never know. I shoulda bought her an air cooled VW, at least I can troubleshoot those over the phone.

Thanks man :) really just one of those days, bugs my wife when I say it but some days I wish they'd give me my notice too, sell the house and live in our crappy assed RV and simplify life.

Were I a single man I'd live a much simpler life and some days I wish our circumstances would push my wife to joining me in that quest.

Sorry to hear about the lay off, the only advice that I can give is to view it as an opportunity.

Speaking of opportunities, do you view AA as something that could make enough dough to be a full time business that can stand on it's own? That would be one darn cool business if it works out that way.

Is the car that had the mysterious shut down the smart car? It wouldn't happen to have a sealed battery would it? I've seen old failing sealed batteries do some crazy things in both cars and the industrial vehicles that I work on professionally, including a shutdown and restart exactly as you described.

Yes, the Smart and yes there was even a recall to replace the battery so that's my first thought and I may just convince her to get it replaced to be safe.

I dont view AA as anything more than a way to continue to have fun doing roadtrips, never have. But SWMBO who does event management for a living sees a whole different side of it. The current style of events, ie. open enrollment, we do what we want, are my fun, no real money in it. But she is working to turn it into a full time event planning service focused around corporate teambuilding, fundraising and car club events using a similar format. I have no doubt she can do it and it may eventually lead the company down a different path. I hope we'll still have space to do the events I want to do for fun because I have some absolutely STUPID fun ideas in store (ask me about the 4 corners rally when I see you on ETS) but 1 day events like ETS are a break even proposition at best and bigger events like S2S are still mid 3 digits on a good day and probably less if Im honest with the expenses. There are certain expenditures we've just kind of ignored in prepping for ETS that if we factored in would really put us 1-2 k in the hole on the event, but ETS is a marketing and promotional event so the costs are what they are.

Ahh, sorry didn't mean to ignore this, just must have scrolled past it last night.

Unfortunately we are at the other end of the state, just about 12 miles from the Delaware border.

One of the big benefits of her current (soon to be former) position, is that it was a work from home job so she could be there with all the dogs. We do rescue and foster stuff and we'll have to drop a lot of that if she can't be with them all day.

No and the real kicker is one of the tickets was sold at the supermarket where I always stop to buy my tickets. Except this week I was out of the office and stopped at the place by my house instead....oh what might have been :)

Oh that sucks! The last big winner here in Florida was a similar situation for me, we were visiting my grandmother the day it was sold, (she lives on the same road that store is located on) we said we would stop on the way home and buy a ticket. Family emergency had us running home and forgetting about it. Oh well.
