We're down to one full-functioning key for my 2012 Honda Fit. I've got another key that is uncut, but it's transponder and key fob work fine. I've got an additional two uncut, non-functioning keys that would need the transponders and key fobs programmed.
When I call around to my local locksmiths, it's like they are colluding with the dealer. They either get peeved when I say "i just want them cut and programmed and don't need to buy your expensive blanks." Or, when I ask what it might cost to program and cut they keys I've got they want $85 a key.
Has anyone heard of or used an online-based mail-in locksmith service that will not only cut my keys, but program the transponder as well?
The transponders aren't the part that's programmed. The car is programmed to the key (transponder.) There should be a manual procedure to get the car to recognize the key involving walking around your car chanting "HonDuH!! HonDuH!!" while rubbing your belly and patting your head. You may need a FSM to find it, as online is somewhat hit or miss.
I had keys made for my Porsche by an online company in the UK. The keys are those laser cut ones or whatever they're called with the wavy channel cut into the sides. All they needed was a close-up pic of my key. In a few weeks I had two new key blades. I bought a new transmitter (fob) on ebay and stuck the blade in. I took the trandsponder pill out of my one good key and glued it to the ingition switch inside the dash. Yes, the theft-lock is defeated, but it's still as safe as cars used to be and I didn't have to pay the Porsche extortion fee to get new keys and tell the car to accept them. There is a procedure that the lowly Porsche owners may attempt at home to program the transmitter to sync so the door locks work.
