Working on the walkway at the top of the picture and that darn gravity just jerked me down. Luckily I landed a little on the slope on the left of the picture and turned a straight fall into a spinning, tumbling exercise.
Somewhere along the fall I got a bone deep gash in my head and started pumping blood all over. My wife was nearby in the sewing room and quickly covered my head with a towel and put pressure on the gash. Then called 911
the only real damage was my right leg which pulled muscles I didn’t know I had( but do now!)
EMT’s quickly arrived and carried my fat body down all the flights of stairs and put me in an ambulance to the hospital. ( she was a lot stronger than she looked ) they gave me Fetenyl for pain. While it stopped really severe pain for about 15 minutes or so, gosh how can anyone get addicted to that stuff. I started sweating so bad the bandages they applied floated off my skin. Couldn’t keep the IV in place
MRI proved I still have a brain and stuff. I had to spend the next day in the hospital and I’ve missed over a week of work so far.
Tried to drive for the first time last night and couldn’t get out of the driveway before the pain from pulled and damaged muscles told me to stop, get out and limp back into the house.
Guess I should be nicer to my 70 year old body.

Glad you are more or less OK.
I hear you on opioids. I have such a bad reaction to them I'd rather be in pain.

As much as I'm sorry you took a spill, it sure made my day reading your story. That cracked me up.
And yeah, you shouldn't be so hard on antiques
Yup, 70 is a good time to be a bit more “cautious” with the body. What was nothing at 20, minor at 40, becomes serious at 70. Take care!
Dang, tell Mama we appreciate her taking care of you until paramedics arrived.
Yikes! Hope you recover quickly and fully.

Sorry to hear about this. Falls really suck once you’re no longer a toddler. And heads bleed like crazy. Here’s wishing you a speedy recovery.
Yah, I dumped my bicycle a few years back, riding on a warm day in February after they had sanded the roads because of ice. I hit the sand at around 15 mph, started a gentle turn, and the next thing I knew *BAM* I was sliding down the road on my shoulder and hip. I remember thinking that, even as a youngish fellow of 55, I'm too dang old to be falling off bicycles.
You, sir, have done me one better. Make that two better--you've got some years on me and your fall was much more impressive than mine.
Heal quickly! And be careful out there.
Look on the bright side…your super unique, custom home now has an authentic medieval, blood stained, torture scene. Any thoughts on how you’re going to preserve that fantastic patina???
Joking aside, take care man…I used to put inflatable holiday stuff on my roof until one of my students fell off his roof and died doing the same thing one day before he was to start my class. Nobody told me so I put out fifteen training manuals but there were only fourteen students which created a very sad and eerie “missing man” formation in the training room.
BTW, this all happened in Minnetonka, MN…how far is that from your place?
Wow, I'm glad it wasn't worse. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
mom always told me that if you do anything, do it right. I think that qualifies. Heal up!
I'm really amazed that they gave you fentanyl for acute pain. That's not very appropriate.

Wow... Glad it wasn't worse, but that's a hell of a tumble!
Hope you heal up well and quickly! Take care of yourself.
In reply to KyAllroad (Jeremy) :Yep, everything, mostly, I am careful so as not do damage to my old body.
I am lucky that I never broke a bone, even after some serious tumbles.
Those are cool stairs. I like all the wood and the windows. Hope you are feeling better.
Know a guy your age who fell working on a deck, major reconstruction surgery on his ankle with hardware installation, subsequent infection and removal of some hardware, months later and he's just getting out of his house again.
Take care, it's not just you.
Hell, I'm 33 and was off my feet for months last year with a back injury. It's not just an age thing.

Update, drove yesterday, maybe 10 minutes to the barber. Had to drive with the left foot because any weight any pressure on my right shot the pain meter off the charts.
Crawled back in bed to heal some more and my wife commented the whole backside of my right leg is black. Not black and blue but stone black.

Glad you got taken care of quickly - take it easy over the holidays sir.
Get well soon, French, I need the motivation to keep going on my Jag project.
Don't listen to the naysayers. Several years ago, my dad went over to visit his father one day and his dad (who was north of 90 years old at the time) was on the roof of his house putting sealer around his chimney where the roof was leaking.
Grandpa ended up living to 99.
70 is the age when you just start to think about slowing down a little.
Shout out to Mrs. Frenchy for keeping calm and dealing with the situation correctly.
