So this is the test paint out 4x coverage, no sanding with the matte clear. I could paint the car this weekend in spray with this for about 40$ all in. Its cheap, I think it would look good with the sponsor stickers over it as well in 1 shot shiny.

Top section is painted then burnished with gray ultra fine 3m cloth, the bottom is the standard paint out with that material.

That color I like.  I'm usually not a fan of silver but it will look right on that car.

That looks nice.  A proper German car color.

That after the ultra grey pad looks fantastic. You can get matte 2k clear in a rattle can now as well, it likes to be laid down while the top coat is still wet though.

Decided to send it out. I am going to get it running first and then decide what to do. But still leaning on just having someone spray it in a single stage and calling it a day. The wife thinks that I would enjoy it more with a good paint job and to sell of some of the rest of the parts I have collected off the original beetle that I did not need to pay it off. Getting it mechincally done gives me some time.

Sounds like you have a very smart wife.

This is a much more accurate representation of what I was on about. Looks like you can buy the teeth stickers (vinyl, whatever).

Well burnished it is. Not cleaned up completely or cleared yet but it looks really really good in person.

Will have the rest of it down tomorrow or Monday depending on time.

In for the finished product (assuming this turns into a paint job "build thread").  I like it.

That is a proper finish for an air cooled Porsche race car. Remember that the German Racing silver was originally bare metal for weight savings.

It has actual metal in it. If I did not rub it down it looks very shiny. In fact that is my big problem right now. Finding all of the shiny bits I missed and making the brushes look go all in one direction.

I have tried a few clears that I have in cans and even the matte clears bury the burnishing.  So I have been mucking around with some other ideas.

Being that there's real metal in the paint, I wonder if you could engine turn it? A guy built a replica of a Heath Baby Bullet. The cowling is fibreglass, but he "turned" the metallic paint with a big circular eraser on a drill. Not that you should do the entire car, just some accents, maybe.

Yep I will post up the process and how I intend to protect it in a while. I need to write a sop for myself in case it needs to be done again

from five feet back it looks like it's been hand formed out of metal. It's crazy.

I am able to darken or lighten the tint of it as well a bit.
