I've noticed the average cruising speed on the 401 has gone clean up to 120kph since the lockdown started. A while ago I apparently ran into some traffic that brought everyone down to 90 - it was a police truck parked at the side of the highway, everyone went right back up to 120 after passing it.
having lived in the Detroit area for nearly 30 years now, i just wanna say "gone clean up to 120 kph" is cute! that's only 75 mph in freedom units, and in MI that's a transition-only speed, ie we pass through 75 on our way up to or down from our chosen cruising speed. in school zones. ;-)

It's a deal.
Small world, I'm looking at Townsgate from my bedroom window now.
I'm at the top of the hill in Village Homes near the intersection of Westlake Blvd. and Hampshire.
Aircooled, we've got company and he has cool toys
WOW very small world. 9 years my office was corner of Townsgate/Village Glen. I lived off Upper Lake road. My parent still live on Stafford. Gotta meet up with you and Aircooled for sure!

Truth, getting your daily triple in here is easy.
MI resident tripling the triple daily mentioned above-696, 275, 75, 94, 12 Mile Rd-drivers choice.
Had to run out to day for an order of ammo that finally was ready. There was a motorcycle cop on an overpass on I-696 East and 2 chase cars half a mile down the road. They're still out there.
I also have my excuse ready if I do get pulled over.
"But officer, I'm social distancing. They can't get close enough if they can't keep up!"

triple digits on 12 Mile? I know a couple stretches where it's possible, but i don't think i'd do it. And let's not forget M39. i won't put a number on it, but my '95 GSR achieved it's highest speed under my ownership on M39 S between 8 Mile and 96.
Who around here has something that they'll let me borrow to try to go sub-ten-minutes on I-696? My Model 3 won't go fast enough; that's a 170 MPH average.

I was surprised to see one of WaCo's finest waving around his Lidar yesterday. He must have a full face respirator and lots of sanitizer.......
Hopefully he was using his Lidar to make some cool maps of the local terrain.
The 405 has been relatively clear in SoCal. Keeping up with traffic puts me at around 85mph most mornings, 75 in the evenings, which is warp speed compared to typical 405 speeds. With that, I have seen a lot of CHiPs out and about as well in the evenings and they are actively issuing tickets.
The town I'm residing in out here, their police force has been ghostly. I haven't seen on police cruiser, beach cruiser, or one of their EVs that goes around issuing parking tickets since this started. It's interesting to note that with a reduction in police presence, there has been a significant rise in homeless meandering around the city. Or they've always been there and I just never noticed them within the crowds.

The EV that likes to give me tickets for no front plates, while parked, haven't been around since late March. 0 tickets in 3 cars, with no front plates while parked. I see them around, but they aren't enforcing anything. Garcetti has told them to lower the enforcement in most places.
The homeless has always been here. My brother is in charge of LA City project for the homeless, so I consantly hear the pull and push from the City vs the Mayor's office. Making trailers for them, fighting for space for them etc. Currently they are adding port a pottys and hand wash places for the homeless, since the Covid started here. We have a huge homeless problem, and we have had that for 30 years, though last 10+ years the numbers have been significantly icreasing.
Around here the local cops are still driving around , and the street sweepers are still working but they are not giving tickets if your car is in the way ,
The 405 freeway was real empty last week but seems to be getting more traffic all the time , but its still only 25% of normal ,
Still many shops open , essential things like tire stores and body shops !
I understand not stopping people for small things , but I hope it does not get to the point where stopping at Stop Lights is "optional" , I almost got hit the other day with someone blowing thru a light at 60 MPH +
Stay safe !
My wife got hit last week by a 70 something y/o that was very upset due to her son just dying (don’t know the cause).
We just got the estimate this morning; $3,500. They’re both with the same insurance company and so far, we believe the other driver is acknowledging that the accident was her fault.
It’s a 2016 Explorer…we liked our 2003 Explorer better and we’re having the dreaded water pump issue. Four y/o car and I’m now looking at it as an old beater that’ll need replacing soon.

If it makes you feel any better, it's not just California. Things are just as crazy here in MA right now. We've gone from near gridlock during commuting hours to very light volume overnight and people just can't handle it. No one on the roads and they're still reporting rollovers, collisions and so on every morning on the traffic reports. I can't really describe it completely but I guess that people seem really "twitchy" right now is the best way to put it.

What will you replace the explorer with ? Get a RX350 or used GX/LX
I am finding that you have to drive extremely defensive here in MA. People seem to have taken stupid pills or something.
CHP just reported they have ticketed 2493 people for going over 100MPH during this pandemic
same time last year 1300 people cited for going over 100MPH

I forgot about this thread. I posted this to see which local (loco?) would reply. Thanks.
Yeah, M39 is the current Detroit Grand Prix.
I live in NH and work near the MA border. Almost hit twice tonight by Mshiny happy persons, one ran a redlight and another speeding through empty parking lot. My commute has been fast (80ish) but see more signs of out of control drivers - guard rail ripped out, long skid marks, torn up grass in the median. Lucky not to have seen one during commute.
Driving home form work just now, 3 miles, all 3 lane 45mph residential artery roads. Dead flat, straight and smooth. Was buzzed my a trio of cars, new M2 dark blue, new M4 orange and RS3 in a red chrome wrap. All 3 customized and hot rodded, local neighborhood kids. I was set on cruise at 48 and they went past like I was standing still.
I did roll down my windows when I caught up to them at the next light. They were 3 across on launch control for the green. Heard roughly 3 gears click off before backing down. Probably close to 100 in a 45.

Hi mr2s2000elise,
Please accept my apology for the late reply…I work for a company that is running flat out combating COVID-19 so I’m not tracking posts on GRM very well right now.
Anyway, my wife and I are in consensus that a brand-new second gen. Explorer would be perfect for us but we haven’t worked out the bugs on our time machine build so that currently isn’t an option.
We’re not shopping for a replacement right now as there’s nothing on the market that meets our objective (simple, reliable, and scaled enough that we can carry a bunch of Girl Scouts + gear) aka, a second gen. Explorer.
Back to the general topic…as I’ve been doing ever few days, I took my super sweet 1983 RX-7 out for an 80 mile-ish drive up the California Coast yesterday just to get away from everything for a while and I finally witnessed a LEO pull someone over. It was a Chevy 1500 truck with two dirt bikes loaded in the bed and several kids in the crew cab section. I found that interesting…LEO’s appear to be looking for obvious infractions (apparently, you’re headed out to do some riding; that’s not OK at this time).

Awesome, Ventura would be a logical halfway point and the sea food eats are amazing there…how about Aircooled and I bring our favorite toys and we met up with you somewhere; Lure, Whales Tail, Ragin’ etc., etc., etc.
Definitely! Let us know once your Covid work slows down
