I know a couple y'all live in Charleston. What is parking in downtown Charleston?

There are garages all over town. Most of them are $8-15 a day.

There are also meters on most spaces other than White Point Gardens.

It really depends on where you are headed.

The meter maids are relentless, so keep that in mind.

I'm assuming you are talking Charleston, SC.

In reply to Toyman01:

Ok thanks. I was wanting to stay outside Charleston cause of cheaper hotels.

Downtown hotels are going to be stupid expensive.

Mt. Pleasant will be a little better in price, but they have a bunch of road construction going on. If you get more than a couple of miles from the bridge, traffic is going to be a royal PITA.

For price, N. Charleston is probably going to be best. Most of the hotels will be within 15-20 minutes of downtown. There are several around the coliseum from reasonable to ridiculous.

Give me a shout when you're in town and I'll spot you beer.

We parked at the Tourist Center and walked down King St then went east to Battery Park then up the "main drag". When we were done, just hopped on the bus back to the vehicle.

Oh and we stayed at the Red Roof Inn at the bottom of the bridge for $60/night.

I stayed somewhere north of the city and drove in when I was visiting. Parking was not an issue, but then again, I live in NYC and am used to the crazy garage prices here. $15/day is nothing compared to $12/half hour, or whatever it is they're charging here now.

I didn't bother with street parking. Garages were plentiful, conveniently located, and affordable, especially given the savings over staying downtown.

Also, go eat at FIG.

Another problem with street parking: if you have the bad luck to be parked

1) at just the right (wrong?) spot

ii) it's high tide

tres) there's a hella thunderstorm

you will discover your ride bobbing gently like a fishing cork.

So yeah the parking garages are a much better deal. You can wade to the garage, then sit on the rail as the water recedes watching the hipsters try to start/dry out their cars.
