I have noticed this phenominon more and more where the common rules of the road (stay right, stop at stop signs, and not backing up for miles) seem to have gone away.

After a few near misses at both the local mall (parking lot) and at work (parking garage) I finally got "tagged" at work.

I was leaving and had "right of way" coming down the garage (traffic coming up has to stop at the top of each ramp.. but 99 9/10s don't..) and I am full right coming to the end of the row where I go to make a right to go down another level. I get up to it (still a couple of car lengths back) and this mini ute comes zipping around the corner and goes nose to nose with my volvo.

We both stopped and it was only a minor hit. I have a dent in the bumper and he lost his foglights

It is just amazing that with the width of the garage, where two cars can pass each other easily, he had to cut the corner SO tight to put him into a head on collision with another car.

At least he got written up for it

Some people drive like they play poker--aggressively with a lot of risky bets. Sometimes they get called when they've got the worst hand.

For this reason, when I enter a parking lot, my head looks like its on a swivel.

I drive an 87 4Runner with 431,000 miles on it. I am courteous and follow the "rules" in these places, but also say, "Berk em! Let the berkers hit me."

Yup, turn signals, headlight use and the ban on cell phones also don't apply to parking lots, apparently. It's also common courtesy to drive the wrong way down a one way street (especially when the spots are angeled) and consume both lanes when on a two way street.

I didn't know we worked in the same building! People zip through our parking deck going the wrong way all the time. I almost got tagged in one of my classic cars one morning and that got me to notice it more. I've yelled at a more than a few people for driving the wrong way after that.
