Sebastian Loeb beat the Pikes Peak record by over a minute and a half...8:17 or something.

It was asphalt last year as well, although not ideal weather conditions. His winning margin over second is whats impressive.
The bummer is I'm typing this at the bottom of Pikes peak just having finished dinner after arriving...........a few hours after it was all over have seen some cool cars leaving on trailers inc. a very grassroots looking E30 with a big ass wing on the back
After years of lopping a handful of seconds off the record each year (weather permitting), besting the previous record - on the same surface - by 15% is pretty astonishing.
For comparison, a 15% improvement in my lap time at Road Atlanta would be something like 18 seconds faster.

Even though it is hard to compare times. I think we can all agree Loeb has achieved a huge feat. Millen has been to the mountain for YEARS and while he improved his time from last year by a great deal, Loeb surpassed Millen by a minute and a half. All considering he has never been to Pikes Peak until this year.
I think for a driver to be that fast in rally, you have to go beyond having 100% confidence in yourself, crew, and car. You pretty much have to tell yourself "There's a high probability I'm going to drive off a cliff and die today" each time you strap yourself in, and be completely ok with that decision.
Was Millen in the same car as last year? If so, that explains a lot, seeing as it's a drift car instead of a hillclimber...

Millen was in a prototype looking car this year. Probably a reskinned updated version of the prototype car from 2011.

I believe Dallenbauch was in Millen's car from last year.
